This coming Spring I will have a lot of mods go on my accord like 18" Aspec wheels, HFP suspension, TLS sways, etc.. My question to you guys is how did you guys go about reporting these to your insurance providers?? was it a big change in your premiums? I have state farm comp. for $600/6mos.

You're supposed to do that? Lol, oops...

i dont think u have to tell them anything honestly...when i totalled my truck they didnt know i had anything aftermarket on the truck....they gave me 800 bucks for my wheels and tires that i had paid 1400 for 2 years before that..and i got to keep the stock wheels that i sold for 400 ...they also gave me 100 bucks for my bedcover(about a third of its value) ...but dont expect to get anything for supsension stuff...as they will say its necessary to drive the vehicle...the only way to recoup something like that is if u do wreck/total the vehicle is to go take it off and replace it with the stock stuff...as i did with my radio , tailights, mats

I have state farm as well and I mentioned all of my aftermarket stuff (tints, wheels, etc). He took pictures of the car to keep all of that stuff on record and told me to make sure I save the receipts from everything.

The premium didn't go up at all.

Correct! As long as you take pictures and keep receipts you can recoup the money. Same as renters insurance and home owners insurance.

You do need to check your policy because most insurance companies also have a cap on what they will cover for aftermarket parts... alot of times it will be $1000. If you have less than $1000 in aftermarket parts, I wouldn't sweat it... just like everybody has said, keep receipts.

I just switched to Geico today and afterwards ran a quote for adding a 2000 Type R (online). They actually had a section where you could check on the items that are additional or added, such as mag wheels, stereo, etc... and you could put a dollar amount as well. After I submitted it, they informed me that it would take at least 30 minutes for someone to review it. I received the quote and it would add an additional $430 every 6 months.

I think it would be a better thing to disclose your aftermarket items up front rather than try to negotiate and complain to the insurance company afterwards.
