I have a ticking sound coming from the interior of the car. Driving me bananas, so I figured I'd post here to see if anyone has experienced this. Its not a rattle, but a "Tick" and it only happens whenever I go over a bump or pothole. It happens only when Im driving and driving over something that I hit on the road.

I've tried to pinpoint the location, but the "tick" is playing games with me. There are times it sounds like its coming from the dash area, sometimes it sounds like its coming from the drivers side B-pillar, and other times from the rear. I just cant seem to locate it exactly.

Any ideas on what this 'ticking" sound can be? Again, only happens while im moving and hitting a pothole or expansion joint in the road, etc.

In my car it's the air bag. Look for Kings thread about it.

I thought the 2013's had a TSB on this, but didnt pertain to the 2014's?

Did you fix the tick in your airbag? If so, how?

Thanks bud.

I have a VERY keen ear for rattles, ticks, etc in cars. Here's what I've found are problem area's in these cars (My family has 3 9th gen Accords and wife has a '13 civic so I've had some seat time; plus some of the test drives in v6's, etc that I've done)

1. Airbag cover on steering wheel
-- There's a TSB for this. If it's bad enough, you should be able to very very lightly press on it and hear it making the noise. I could when it was getting really bad, right before it was fixed by Honda. If you know a problem area in the road where it does this, drive over the bump and hold down this piece tightly like you're going to honk and see if it makes the sound or not

2. B-pillars/Seatbelt mechanisms
-- These things still drive me nuts at time. I need to figure out how to disassemble (if it's easy) to figure out what exactly is making the sound. I can press on the actual piece that slides up and down (the vertical piece behind the large adjuster) and it'll stop. I think it just has too much wiggle room and is vibrating on plastic and/or metal

3. Headliner handles
-- My drivers side is fine, but my passenger headliner grab handle is definitely a source of noise. It happens on the same 1/2 mile or so of road every day and if I put something up there like a towel/etc to make it seem like someone is holding it, it'll go away. I've taken it apart and looked at it, tried a few things, but haven't had much luck yet. Only spent about 15-20 minutes on it. There are metal clips that hold it into the headliner and I think that's the noise source.

4. Kick panel near middle console
-- See youtube video and talk about that on these forums. I don't think I have this noise, but it's definitely a big one talked about here

5. Door under the HVAC controls
-- The little door under the HVAC controls will make slight creaking or rattling over larger bumps. I can wedge a few folded/thick papers in the crease and it'll go away. That or pulling the door open and outwards toward the shifter/cup holder area will make it pull away from what it's touching and stop making the sound.

6. Door panel wiring..or something else down there
-- Haven't had time to pull the door panel, but I think it's wiring from the door. It definitely could be something else like wiring near the pedals and footwell. No telling. It sounds like a ticking though

My 2013 did not fall in the TSB range. The regional engineer looked at it and gave the dealership the OK to start going further, I just have not gotten it back there yet. The problem is it comes and it goes...

And at dealership time...it goes.

On the overhead handles, I have added some self stick felt from Joann's. Pull the handle down and you'll see a pad on either end. I put a piece on the pull down handle and on the stationary side.

My power cord for my Garmin GPS was slapping against the dash, so I slit a rubber grommet and placed it over the cord.

I get a tick sound on rough roads too, but it only happens about 5% of the time. I'll drive for hours and not get it. Then park for an hour, then I get it on the next drive. Later that day, it's gone again. Grrrr!

I also lined my glove box with self sticking felt. Make sure you don't have a pen or something in there that's making noises. Also check the overhead eyeglasses holder. You can felt that too.

Glovebox ticking. I think it's the internal latching mechanism. I can make it stop but cannot figure out how to permanently fix it. Ticking noise from center console area even when empty. No idea. Sooooo many noises in this car it sounds like a Chevy now. Too bad for honda. Build quality is not tight after 50k miles.

Thanks for all the pointers. Its definitely a "tick" and not a creak or rattle.
Seems every frikken car I've owned (German, Jap, American) has had some sort of rattle, creak or tick.

After driving home from the gym last night, it seemed that the tick is coming from the drivers side rear deck shelf (I think). Im going to go back there when I have time and try stuffing some socks in the back to see if that helps (from the other thread that I've read).

I've been purposely driving over bumps, man hole covers, etc to hear the tick and I really cant pinpoint it. Been pushing on door panels while driving and it doesnt go away. It seems to only come when I drive over something.

Going to have to keep going thru some steps until I eventually find the source. If im unsuccessful, this thing will get dumped at the dealer and I'll let them diagnose it.

I have this same problem...however I only notice the noise when my kids sit in the back seats and it only happens when I go over speed bumps or rough road surfaces...tried looking in the back deck but couldn't pin point where it's coming from. Let me know if you have any luck and I will do the same!

Don't ever get a BMW then. After a while those rubber door seals creak like crazy as the car is driving down the road.
Really? I can honestly say that I have had no rattles (or door seal creak) in any of my BMWs. They have been very solid for me. On the other hand, I do hear German voices in my head as I drive. Annoying.

P.S. OP, are you sure that your ex has not placed a bomb in your Accord? See if she has purchased a rice cooker and/or "Bomb Making for Dummies" recently. :)

My car has a "ticking" sound as well. It seems to be coming from the driver side where the corner of the dash board and windshield meet. Talk about a pain in the ***. I already took my car in for some rattling of my passenger door panel and they took 2 weeks total to fix it so I'm hesitant to take it in for this as it'll probably take them a month to figure it out.

Had a ticking on the driver side and found that it was the headliner. Theres adhesive tape that gets loose with heat and such. Noticed if I push up and down near the end of the visor(when flipped up) I can hear the adhesive sticking and un sticking.

Did you have any luck finding the source?
