So I just purchased this car yesterday. I have wanted an Accord since 1996. Several people and the dealer said my car is rare due to the manual transmission and the EX trim for 2014. Is this true? Also, all I notice from an LX to the EX is the side view camera and the moonroof. Are there any other upgrades the EX has? Look forward to your response and being a part of this group!

Welcome Levi,

No...."Rare" it is not. "Less likely" is probably a better choice of words. You can find a manual transmission in a 9th Gen Accord (2013-2017) with either the V6 engine, or the 4 cylinder engine. Manuals were sold in various trim levels- LX, Sport, EX, EX-L....

I find it difficult to use the new search function in our re-vamped forum, but I think that only 8% (?- someone correct me please) of all 9th Gen Accords were equipped with a manual transmission. I also do not remember the breakdown between 4 or 6 cylinder.

Compare and contrast the 9th Gen's trim levels by reading the sticky thread here:

Rare was the 7th Gen's sedan, V6 engine, 6 speed manual transmission.

Sedan or Coupe? V6 or I4?
If its the I4 Ex sedan with the 6mt, I do believe that is quite rare. I think only one member on here has that car, and I've only seen one in person. (a Honda company lease)

Cars.com lists only 7 9th gen I4 Ex sedan with 6mt for sale in the entire country.

Yes, is it quite hard to find ex sedan with manual, ive driven one at the dealers, but did not buy it, though of long-term parts and their costs, thats was bqck in 2015-16ish, then I bough 17 belt buckle and a belt for a grille v6 exl sedan when i found out gen ten was coming and it looked fugly to me at least. Couple months back saw 2 with low mileage 16 and 32 k for sale both lx and ex. The asking prices at dealers were as if you were buying brand spanking new one, outrageous.

One member with an I4 and 6MT? TONS and TONS - Most just come in the sales pitched "Sport" model that is not all that special (Unless you own one I suppose).

I have a '16 6MT EX 4DR. I'm not sure if it's "rare" in the same way that a Ferrari Enzo is rare but it's probably the rarest of 9th Gen Accords in that fewer were made than other models (I believe). I bought it new and had to wait 4 weeks for my dealer to get one from the factory.

I'm not sure about all of the differences on the pre-facelifted models but on the 16/17's the biggest differences between the Sport/LX and the EX are the moonroof, Lanewatch, additional touchscreen w/ Apple Carplay/Android Audio, 6 speakers, keyless entry and push button start, rear seat air vents and a few minor things like garage homelink, all window controls back-lit etc. The additional screen, keyless entry and moonroof were the reason I wanted the EX. If the Sport had those features I would have gladly taken one but I preferred the additional features over the superficial exterior appearance upgrades.

I have the exact car that you just purchased. Mine is a 14' EX 6-speed in MSM. This is my second manual Accord (previious one: 1995 EX 5-speed). I do agree that this is a rare model to come across as most of the 6-speed accords are either an LX or Sport. I fact, when I purchased mine new the dealer had to get it from another dealer in NY that was about 300 miles from them! Mine thus far has not had a single problem with it other that an occasional glitchy driver's power window that acts up when it rains (with just over 48,000 miles on it). My only major complaint about this car is that I could not get it in leather so I installed it aftermarket, which has made the seats sooo much more comfortable in my opinion. As far as upgrades to mention over the LX or sport, I find that one of the most useful features is using the keyfob to open all of the windows on a hot day as I'm approaching the car; it helps to cool the inside quicker. Good luck with the new ride!

I purchased a 2017 Accord 4dr EX with the 6 speed manual this past April. At the time, I searched on Autotrader.com and there were only 5 of that spec offered for sale anywhere (had "Any" selected for radius). So for me, it was pretty "rare". I did not want the Sport (love having a moonroof) and wanted Apple Carplay (2016 or 2017 only) so admittedly I was limiting the search criteria. But I was surprised only 5 came up.

Fortunately, three were within 50 miles, and one of the three was at my local dealership. Since they'd had it on their lot awhile, and because not many people want (or know how) to drive a stick-shift anymore, I got lucky....and the color I wanted to boot....win-win.

I wish cars could be built à la carte. I would like to have the rear seat vents, and the backlit window controls, but I have no use for the push button start, lanewatch, additional screen, and certainly NO MOONROOF. I do however like the exterior touches that "sport" models receive. Now if "sport" models could just have some performance upgrades, that would be greaaaat….

You could, just not a Honda.
Not just Honda. Most makers divide into trims to combine options. That used to be a benefit of ordering a Mini, options were individual, but BMW changed that.

Porsche is what I was hinting at. Their cars are very much customizable for a "mainstream" manufacture. You can spend hours trying to configure just one car.

Most car makers you can't, some you still can. Just have to pay the price.

Based on my findings when I was shopping specifically for the EX 6MT, it was hard to find. Only 1-2 would show up in dealer inventories every week in a 300 mile radius from San Francisco and most were MSM color. The 16/17 EX 6MT only came in 2 colors., Modern Steel Metallic and Lunar Silver.

Just went through this with my other car. No it won't bring megabucks, but it should yield a better private party sale. In my case, it sold for a premium. The buyer even came from several states away to pick it up. Car was in mint condition, super clean inside/out (after a car wash), well maintained. Some modest and tasteful mods.

Dealers offered me jack for it. Low end of kbb/nada using the bs excuse no one around here drives manuals. I suspect the car would not have sat on their lot long though.
