Long time reader, first post here on this forum though. I'm trying to definitivley determine if I can service my transmission filter on my '08 V6 Accord 2dr. My dealership said no, that it is INSIDE of the transmission and not serviceable.

I've searched and searched and as far as I can tell this is correct, but would like input from this community.

Anyone have alternative information?

30 views, anyone?

Yes, it does have a filter that is considered "Non serviceable". However, they said the same for the 7th gens and many of us change it all the time. Without looking at an 8th gen trans, it's hard for me to say for sure, but I'm sure someone has attempted this by now. Best thing to do is look at your trans and see if you can find the cap that covers the filter. A quick look over at Majestic Honda shows the filter under "AT Oil Level Gauge - ATF Pipe". It's part number 2. If you can see the cap "number 3" and the hose going to it, you should be able to remove the cap to get to the filter. However, if this is in fact internally then the whole transmission will have to be removed. Hope this helps.

On the I4 it's an inline paper filter probably made by WIX or similar. It's replaceable, but it's under the fuse box so it's kinda a PITA to get to.

On the V6 that definitely looks like the filter plugs in to the tranny.

Plugs into?

Hey Drowned, by that do you mean it's external? Thanks.

Unfortunately the 8th gen V6 filter is internal. I think the following post shows most clearly that it's internal:

If for some reason it really isn't internal, it shouldn't be too hard to find the "cap" (#3 in the Bernardi diagram) sticking out of the transmission.

The only question here is whether this transmission internal filter can be removed without any clearance issues.
Based on the diagram above it looks very easy to remove bolts #28 take out the cap #3 and replace the paper filter #2 but God knows what's next to the filter cap and even if you can reach the said bolts...
That being said, I just replaced the transmission filter on my I4 (90k miles) and while it was under the fuse box and some piping I managed to replace it with the help of some long nose pliers and flex head ratchets.

Good News - there are absolutely no clearance issues!

After you've removed the transmission 1st. :)

The information drozzin kindly provided from the service manual clearly shows the filter is inside of the transmission case. I confirmed the information myself by reviewing the Helms factory service manual.

I found it kind of surprising that the 8th gen V6's have an internal filter since the 7th and 9th gen both have external filters.

I like your style! Nice good information for me whenever I do get to that point.

I was under the impression that was the 4 cyl filter

Then, what the hecks is this?

And the part I looked up on AZ seems to corroborate the diagram. 09 Accord EX 3.5 V6 Trans filter
The service manual information you're showing is for an I4 not a V6. Your AutoZone part search is simply wrong. It's been well established from OEM Honda part sellers already shown above in this thread.

Why on God's Green Earth would the Honda engineers decide this was smart to do???? There is no such thing as a lifetime filter!! Come on!!
So not only do we have to REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION!! But then we have to REMOVE THE FLYWHEEL AND BELLHOUSING??? For the love of Pete!

I have had the shudder for a while. I have changed the fluid 4 times now [One 3x change and one single change] and each time I change it the shudder diminishes quite a bit but comes back within a few k miles.

Hey Sarge, what do you drive and how many miles does it have on the clock?
What Brand and type of ATF fluid do you use?
