Well, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered some Koni Yellows. I have had my Pro Kit springs for over a year but I couldn't make a decision on which shocks to buy. I debated between the Tockico Blue and the Koni Yellow shocks. I almost pulled the trigger on the Tokicos a few months back but then I heard that Koni was having a sale beginning in March. I held out and I'm glad I did. I was able to get all four shocks shipped for $505 from autoanything.com. I have always had great service from them and with their 15% off deals and free shipping, it is nearly impossible to beat their prices. My only gripe is that some manufacturers (Weathertech) will not honor the discounts however the majority do.

I think the price difference for the Konis is worth it over the Tokicos for the perch settings, dampner adjustment, reputation, and overall ride quality. I have no intention or desire to be slammed but I would like to reduce some of the wheel gap and between the Pro Kit and the perch settings, I should be able to accomplish my goals. I have a rear camber kit on order as well but I'll probably play with the shock settings for a few weeks before I install it and get an alignment.

I have seen a few posts with the Koni settings on the 6cyl but does anyone have any perch setting suggections for the 4 cyl? I want the car to be pretty level but wouldnt mind a slight rake. I'll probably start with the middle perch in the rear and the front perch on it's lowest setting and go from there. Also, I've read some mixed information that some of the stock washers and/or bushings need to be drilled out to compensate for the larger diameter Koni shock shaft. Does anyone have any details on this? I'm hoping the get these bad boys installed the weekend of the 31st so that gives me some time to pick up some fresh parts if needed.

Thanks for the input.

If pairing the Koni's with the Pro kit (1.4" F/ 1.2" R), depends on how much lower/higher you want to go.

The front Koni's have 2 perches, stock (neutral setting) and 15mm lower from stock.

The rear Koni's have 3 perches, stock (middle perch), 20mm higher from stock, and 15mm lower than stock.

If you go middle perch on rear, that will give you a 1.2" drop. If you go with lowest perch on the front, that's a 2" drop (1.4" + 15mm).

You'll need to enlarge the opening on the top hat, dust boot, and bump stops if I remember correctly.

The Koni's come with new washers, so you'll be using those.

Hey Name, thanks for the quick, thorough, and helpful response. I will take those factors into consideration and I'm glad to hear that the shocks will come with fresh washers. Hopefully the drilling wont be too bad.

So it looks like at the fully "slammed" level I would be at 2" drop in the front and 1.8" in the rear. The 2" up front sounds about right. I'll have to decide between 1.2" or 1.8" in the rear. Either way, I appreciate the information and I'll be sure to take some pictures before, during, and after the install.

How does the perch stay in place?
There's a little clip that goes into one of the height adjustment notches on the strut. Then there's a ring that rests on top of that. The perch (silver part in 3rd pic) sits on top of those.

Thanks for the pics. Question. The way I see it, the circlip is the key that holds it all in place?

circlip<<< ring <<< perch <<< spring.

The circlip is that strong? If so, how would I be able to move it to the notches?

I have the same setup. Works good. I didnt drop it to the lowest perch tho.

Think of it like those little plastic bookshelf clips that are able to support all that weight. Somehow it works.

Use pliers to spread them apart/open and then slide up or down. It will then lock into notch.

I have this setup since 2006 on a 2005 6-6-coupe.
Very happy with it. Only problem I had, one of the spring broke last fall. Had to wait one month to get a replacement kit from Eibach because it was not in stock...

Is there a promo code to get the addtional 15% off?
I was able to use code PBEB3 for 15% off (about $90). If you check their webiste frequently, they run the 15% off about once a month as well and often have new custmer specials. I dont work for them or have any ties but the service has been great. For example, I ordered the Konis on Wednesday afternoon. When I got home yesterday, I had a FedEx attempted delivery tag on my door. I can't complain about that!

I finally got around to installing the konis and pro kit this weekend. I was able to do it by myself in a little over 4 hours. Once I figured out what I was doing, things went smoothly. I did have some issues removing the rear end links but I found that it was not necessary to remove the end links to remove/replace the spring assembly. I followed the HFP installation instructions which suggested the removal of the end links. Although it would have allowed more space, it is not necessary. I will however have to replace my end links since I could only partially remove them and now the nuts are bound.

I haven't had a chance to mess with the firm/soft settings but I put the fronts on the lowest perch and the rears are on the middle perch. The rear konis could probably be on lowest perch without rubbing trouble. That was my main concern and the reason I didn't drop them all the way from the beginning. When I swap my end links, I may see if I can adjust the clips without too much trouble.

The driving difference is incredible. The car sticks to the road like never before. Combined with the 20mm rear sway and 225 tires, the konis and pro kit bring a new life to the car. I could do without the clunking from the end links but that should be fixed shortly. I started with the shocks on 1 turn to firm from full soft. They feel better than stock on smooth roads but the bigger cracks and bumps are definitely felt. The fronts only take a second to adjust but the rears are a bit of trouble because of the location of the top hats.

I'll get some pictures up shortly but let me know if you guys have any questions regarding the install or set up. Hopefully I'll get the front sway sometime this summer and this thing should rip the corners and twisties! (well, the best that a 3300 pound, front drive, NA 4 banger can do)

I've had the same setup on my 4cyl for about 8 months now and I absolutely love them. I plan on moving the rears to the lower perch within the next few months when I have some more free time. I think you'll definitely need to trim the bumpstop to make up for the drop though. In the middle setting on the rears I don't have all that much travel. I've had the same setup dampening-wise forever. Fronts at full stiff and rears half turn away from full stiff. I found that setting to work really well especially with the larger rear sway bar and the strut bar up front.

Nice, I'm loving it so far but I haven't had a chance to mess with the adjustments.

I'm going to rig up a wrench to make the rear konis easier to adjust and I still can't decide if the rear perch should be lower. I thought I would like the rake look but I think it would look a little cleaner with the rear down lower. The fronts are perfect on the lower perch with the pro kit. Pictures should be up this weekend.

Pantsandskate, Did you trim the front bump stops? I read mixed things so I did not trim mine. It's my first time on a lowered suspension so I'm still getting used to it but overall, I love it. The handling difference is night and day.

I didn't trim any and I haven't really had any issue with bottoming out, even with the little less travel in the shocks. I am going to trim the bump stops on the rear though and lower the rear most likely friday. I'll post up a picture when its all done.

That would be sweet. I'll try to take some pics of mine this weekend as well but I'm not going to mess with the perches until my new endlinks come in.

my setup. I didnt cut any bump stops, but I wish I cut the ones in the back a bit.

Got a few pictures. Full car, then the front on regular perch, then rear on lowest perch. I didn't cut the bumpstops up front, only the ones in the rear to make up for the extra drop. It looks lower in person also. And I do have adjustable toe and camber arms in the rear so i can keep my car aligned properly, definitely needed it with the drop my alignment was way off when it first got dropped.
