Sup Guys,

Does anyone have a diagram showing exactly where the Main Relay on a 2000Honda Accord EX V6 is located and what it looks like?

I don't know if it's the same on the V6, but on the 2.3L you have to get in the driver's footwell and look up near the steering column. For pics of the relay itself search on ebay - always a bunch for sale there (with pics).

Why do you think yours is bad?

Thanks, I tried searching google and got a pretty good idea of what it looks like but once you get under the dash you see so many wires, i could be difficult to find.

For some reason the car has intermetent problems starting. It cranks strong but it doesnt start on some days on others it starts with no problem. Initially i thought i found the problem once when i disabled the alarm, it started up. But now that doesnt work which makes me think it was never the issue. I checked the ecu fuse which looks good. The car has been sitting for nearly two weeks. We had a bad winter storm last week here in new york. However for the past couple of days the weather has been in the 30-40s. I've had this problem now for about three months. I wanted to pull the main relay to check the solder points for any hairline fractures, kinda ruling things out.

Right off the top of my head, I don't know where the MSR (Main System Relay) is located. (I SHOULD, though, as I've been under the driver's side dash for alarm system service.) At any rate, I'd say you're on the right track, given the age of your car. The MSR is very problematic, being prone to cause intermittant starting issues, especially in temperature extremes. They use a crappy grade of solder on the PCB, which is prone to cause an open-circuit condition when the relay is subjected to extreme hot or cold weather. It costs (as I recall) about $53. My dealer keeps (and sells) a ton of MSRs. I suggest you replace it.

ok... since no one cared to ask. why are you looking for it? did honda tell you it was bad, or is this a self-assessment? lastly, how do you know it's not your ignition relay. The reason i ask is because the two have very similar symptoms. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, and returned it.

This is a self assessment, ruling out possibilities. How do i check the ignition relay? What problems did you have?

The MSR (Main System Relay) is actually comprised of two circuits. One side activates the ignition system; the other side activates the fuel pump. If EITHER side is faulty, the car will have intermittant starting issues. If EITHER side fails, the car will NOT run. Decimal point.

From diagram provided in links below, refer to illustration #10...

Hello all, First post to this forum. I am helping my friend with her 1999 Accord and am struggling to find the main relay. From all the pix I have seen from a search, nothing looks readily like the relay. I am attaching two pix and hoping someone can help me identify it. The perspective is on my back looking up and right at the connections with the steering column to my left. Thanks, JP

I believe it is the relay at right in first picture with brown plug connector and am looking for confirmation. Thanks!
