2015 4 door EX… I’m wondering if there already exists a How To for technical steps to install barriers so mice cannot get into the car.

One obvious location is usually under the windshield wipers and under the “cowling” where a large opening in the metal allows air into the vent system via the cabin filter. But it also gives access to mice, so placing 1/4 inch hardware mesh (like tight chicken-wire but where the cross-hatch openings are 1/4 inch squares) over that opening keeps mice out, while continuing to let air in.

Sometimes someone has put together exact steps to do that, along with fixing other locations - usually air intakes - for a model of car. So just wondering if anyone knows of such for 9th generation Accords.

(protecting the soy-based covered wiring from getting chewed is a whole other topic…)

thx for any info

Id also be curious to know, as Ive seen evidence of mice in my engine (not yet inside the car). Though on my Tundra, I did indeed have mice get in and build a nest inside the headliner...ohh boy what a PITA that was. Since then, Ive crammed steel wool in every small opening I could under the hood.

This stuff is awesome. All natural and the rodents despise it. Works for cars, power equipment, you name it.

The Fresh Cab stuff sounds good, but for our mountain cabin I first do Exclusion Prevents Intrusion (quarter inch hardware mesh a good part of that - seal up all gaps, sometimes with steel wool), and I've used Rataway.com forever. A little bottle you dilute and spray. In another car I use battery operated little intermittent strobe lights with an audio thing too. (Made by Loraffe and can be found in an Amazon via search for: Under Hood Rodent Repeller Battery Operated Ultrasonic Car Rat Repellent Mice Deterrent Keep Animal Away from Car with Ultrasound and LED Flashlights Rodent Defense Vehicle Protection, 2 Pack)

Yes, Eelnod… That back vent is another access point. For my big Prius DIY project years ago, I included those…

The wires chewable where mice (Or worse - rats) can get to easily is big, but probably worth it to get to the main wires harness and do the tape wrap. A bunch of labor to get that done, I understand.

But mice nesting anywhere inside a car or in the cabin filter? Horrible, gross and stinky. It sure doesn’t seem pointless to avoid that kind of mess…

Thanks, mtts60 - yes, good discussion for this is the https://www.driveaccord.net/threads/mice-are-destroying-my-hvac-system.573917/ you mentioned. Thanks.

The good news in there is that one doesn’t need specific steps to get to under the cowling to install 1/4 inch hardware mesh over the open gaps. A 2006 Prius was a whole different story. Much trickier to get to and precise instructions were needed.

Thx

Peppermint oil is a deterrent. It's awkward to apply, but I've used it successfully.

I had a mouse issue on my 2008 CRV, nothing yet on the 2016 accord. The main area of entry was the air intake up under the cowel. I used a 1/4" mesh and self tapping screws with washers to hold the mesh in place. The size I used was 5"x12" mesh and a 1/2 self tapper. No mouse issues since. The unscreened air intake is a feature on all Honda's as it is on the 2016 Accord, the 2019 Ridgeline and my 2011 Pilot. Remove the wiper blades and plastic cowel top assembly to access. As I see signs of mouse activity on the cabin air filter, I will add the screen.

I've tried the natural deterrents and none of them worked. Eliminating all food (grass seeds, pet food, bird food) from your garage space and put out some traps along the walls and next to the entry doors.
