I was tooling around the parkinglot today in first gear (D1) and noticed a pretty loud buzzing/humming/rattling noise coming from the car once the engine got above 3000 RPM. I can also reproduce this sound in neutral or park.

I remember reading about a sound like this being normal on either the civic or TSX, I can't recall which one, so I was wondering if it was normal for the Accord's K series.

I can take a sound clip a bit later if anyone is interested in hearing it. :)

Clicky for the sound

You can sorta hear what i'm talking about, and it's most pronounced from the 23-27 second mark; it's a RPM dependent sound.

Why not get someone to hold the revs for you while you get under the bonnet and try to locate where the noise is coming from?

Dont forget to have them surprise you with a horn test while you are under there!

Not a bad idea though, might help you isolate the noise if it happens while you are still.

the receiving end of the horn test is not fun, but giving it always gets a laugh

I'm guessing that this is not normal, since many of you guys regularly 'wind it up'...

The car's made this sound from the beginning, if revved in P or Neutral, so this isn't a recent development thankfully

I used my digicam to record a video clip of the sound, but i've been trying to figure out how to extract the audio from it and compress the audio/video to upload.

EDIT: I'll be uploading a 13MB quicktime type file, about 1 minute long.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this sound on the forums before, kinda like the ABS noise...

Anyone know what the sound is? It's louder when the car's cold, if that helps...

My car sounds almost exactly the same. I call it a case of the infamous Honda-Rev from its four bangers.

They're just buzzy like that I guess, but I really don't think its half as bad when you're driving. (In D4 of course). Greg maybe you needed a V6? :lmao: . You've had more than a few issues with this car, hopefully your Camry will bring light, and maybe the Accord will get better? Its a real bummer to see an Accord owner not fully satisfied, it's like using the lords name in vain or something, it's just wrong! :lmao: (Come on Honda, make this guy happy!).

Best of luck to you.

What noise are you talking about? I didn't hear anything except an engine revving? :dunno:
I'll try re-recording the car, and post if if I can get it to sound similar to how it does in person...

I'll definately admit, it's hard to hear in the audio clip

Did you record the original in a garage? I hear a lot of echoing, but I did hear what you were talking about. It actually sounds pretty normal to me.

everything sounds normal to me.... sounds like mine...

Does it make the same noise when the engine is fully warmed up?

Sounds just like my car.

Well, the engine was fully warmed up in this audio sample, and indeed, the sound was recorded in a large concrete/brick parking garage - you've got good ears.

I'll try a [stone cold engine] sample sometime this week; i'll try to tweak my recording technique too.

I guess that it could be normal, but with my car, you never know :paranoid:
