After running over a dead deer on the freeway (I could hear the antlers hitting the bottom of my car), I noticed that turning on the car had a louder engine noise. whenever I accelerate near 2k rpm, the engine noise is way louder also. I went to a Honda dealer for a "full inspection" which included an inspection of the undercarriage and they said nothing was wrong. I am wondering what your guys thoughts are.

Thanks

Not sure what it could be.

1) Placebo effect: Quite possible. Our minds tend to mess with us. For instance, get someone worked up on the internet and then don't respond and know they hit refresh 100 times an hour for a day or two just to see if you will reply back. There was one guy on here who wrote that he accelerated quickly once during his break in period and ever since then he seemed to think the engine noise was louder.

2) Antlers damaged something mechanical: Again possible. Probably not anything bad since it was looked at by the techs. But if something got banged up it may be causing a louder noise.

3) Antlers damaged some of the aeros underneath: Again possible. If the antlers bent or mangled some of the underbody aero pieces, it may cause a slight amplification of the engine noise that would make it seem louder when it really isn't anything mechanical.

4th option, the tech never did any inspection, told you what he thought you wanted to hear and you are still have deer parts you are dragging around.

If you are really concerned, get a second opinion.

If you have an hydraulic jack put the front end up on stands & inspect it for yourself. There is no better eyes than a concerned Accord owner who ran over a deer carcass. It could be a plastic panel that just got pushed up rubbing on the pulley. That is what I wpuld do.

perhaps you are now being extra critical of noises when, in fact, the harmonics of 2,000 rpm now sound wrong to you. I suggest you visit a dealer and check out a few used or new cars and drive them in the same manor as your problem car?

how about a video or sound byte? most K engines have a chain rattle noise as the engine winds down from a higher rpm too, some when holding rpm steady, that you may not hear until your suddenly paranoid about running over the deer.

If memory serves me correctly.

Doesn't the air intake have a tube that makes a U bend towards the bottom of the car and go back up to just under the hood. Perhaps it has been knocked loose.

It sounds louder as in exhaust noise. Sounds like a grinding or droning noise. not sure how to describe it. i can hear it over my music, which was not the case previously. I will have a different dealer take a look.

Could be it nailed your exhaust and cracked something You need to get under the car and look for soot or turn it on and listen for whistling.

I hit a guard rail in my '95 a few winters back. I cracked the bottom of the silencer on the intake, ended up just removing it. engine noise increased. check the downward loop from the intake opening to the air filter, look for damage there.

My thought as well. The resonance at 2k is a bit if a give away. Grab a hammer and when cold check the heat shields on the cats.

Yeah the deer pissed of your cat.
another similarity with my '95. 1750rpms it made a noise. anywhere above and below it went away. replaced the flex pipe and it was fixed

So,,,,

Who got to keep the deer?

You, or the dog?

Well I paid 150 for the dealer to check it out. They checked the car, including under, and said everything was fine. But i will be going to a different dealer to check again. Also i do hear whistling when i accelerate. but this was already there before i hit the deer.

Amazing

Dealers ALWAYS find something "wrong" with cars that is life-threatening and needs fixing that moment :)

I second that. It could be anything, but it's possible that the exhaust system was damaged somewhere. Does the louder noise sound like that fart sound when you have an old car with the exhaust falling off?
