I bought some 15" steel wheels + hub caps (factory honda) off ebay this summer & just had snows mounted on them (Nokian RSI).

I'm wondering if I need to buy different lug nuts to for the steel wheels with hub caps than the alloys. I remember my wife's civic had a plastic bushing built in to the nut to protect the hub cap.

Any online sources?

Thanks

I have the reverse... I bought an Accord with a dealer installed 'special edition ' package which included 15" aluminium rims. I kept the steel rims for winter duty with Nokian RSi snow tires. The original lung nuts have the plastic washer which I use with the aluminium wheels too...

I was wondering the same thing. I'm going to be putting my snow tires on in a few weeks and I only have the lug nuts that came with the alloys. I was planning to use them on the steel wheels, but if anything suggesting that is a bad idea comes up I will reconsider.

If you're going to use Honda wheel covers, you will need lug nuts that have a nylon washer on them. The washers hold the wheel cover on the wheel. You can buy generic 'hub caps' that snap onto the wheel but depending on the design, the standard lugnuts might be too tall, then.

Check eBay for some genuine Honda wheel covers and lugnuts. College Hills Honda or Majestic Honda are good sources, too. You can even try your local Honda dealer and see if they have any used lugnuts they'll sell at discount from "take offs" - when people upgrade to alloy wheels, they don't always take back the steel wheels, covers, and lug nuts.

The lug nuts are the same. The plastic washer comes on/off. You only need the washer for Honda wheel covers. The washers are split ring and easy to pop on/off. You do not need new lug nuts unless that's the only way you can get the washers.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one and clutter up the forums. But I have a 06 LX and have steel wheels and I bought some '05 TSX rims. So reading this thread, my lug nuts from my steel wheel will fit just fine, correct? Or do I need to get new ones since they might stick out? If I need to get need ones, any recommendations? Do I need wheel locks? Thanks in advance.

Wheel locks are up to you and how well your insurance covers the wheels since they could be considered "aftermarket" non oem. Insurance companies can run the VIN and tell what the car left the factory with. Insurance companies have really been revising their policies after the fast and furious craze hit a few years back and people were trying to get reimbursed for special paint jobs, etc.

To ensure the lugnuts fit, lay one inside the whell nut well and see if the curvature on the bottem is the same, etc.

I personnally have a different set of lug nuts for the summer wheels. My winter lug nuts get kind of cruddy and rusty looking. I really don't want to clean them each year.

The wheelnuts on my 2004 worked fine with the steel rims, honda aluminum rims and Acura CSX rims. I think you'll be ok. Are the wheelnuts chrome with the plastic washer thingie?

Thanks for the replies, I believe that they are ones with the plastic washer since I have hub caps on my car right now. I was planning on just using the lug nuts off of my current steel wheels because I don't plan on keeping them. I don't want to get to the tire shop and have them tell me that the lug nuts won't fit the rims or they just put on the with improper lug nuts.

The lug nuts that worked with the honda steel rims and hub caps work on my aluminum rims in my avatar.

Here is a pic with the Acura CSX rims using the original lug nuts.
