I've been tuning up a 99' Accord I recently purchased as a commuter car. I cleaned the TB today (wow it was coated with gunk) which cured the sticking throttle pedal, Seafoamed the intake, gas tank, and crank case, and changed the oil and filter.

Typically I clean the MAF sensor as well with the proper cleaner, however there doesn't seem to be one located in the intake tube going from the air box to the throttle body.

I found something that appears to be a MAF sensor on the back of the intake, but it has some special star head screws holding it in place and a 15 or 20 star bit won't fit.

Can someone confirm that this is infact the MAF, and if so what bit fits??

the PGMFI in our honda's use manifold pressure instead of flow, so look for a small MAP sensor right after the butterfly on the throttle body. i have a tacoma, so i see your confusion! the star nutted thing is probably the idle air control valve and as another DA'er 'pointed' out to me a while ago, its a 5 tipped pattern! not sure where the drivers for those can be bought.. btw, you think that seafoam did the trick or was it more the free spirited driving you did afterward? just curious

Ah, ok on the MAP. Never had a vehicle with one of those as my past 4 have been Toyotas (Toyota PU, 2 Tacos, and now a 4Runner). Does a MAP need to be cleaned like the MAF does on our Yotas?

Honestly, I'm not sure on the Seafoam. I can tell ya it seems to be running better, although with effort I DID get it to ping a little today when giving it some throttle, so I dunno. I guess at $6 a can it didn't hurt. I may disconnect the battery to reset the ECU so it'll learn my driving style to see if that helps.

So back to the MAP. Need to be cleaned or ?

i dont think theres anything you can clean it with other than air. it's pretty simple and reliable - takes the manifold pressure and converts it to voltage for the ecm. but if youre like me, you can pull it off and have a look. i always say, if it aint broke, fix it till it is. how do the plugs look? my taco was pinging on super and i changed the worn out plugs and its much much better.

here's what's where..... if you don't get an answer to location from someone else on things in a timely manner, feel free to PM me with a link to the thread & I'll do my best to find what you're looking for. I don't see each thread sometimes.... :dunno:

In looking for "MAF" nothing was showing up, but Honda changes their terms from time to time.... I'm sure it's just to make life more interesting!!:D

Many thanks. That confirms there's no MAF.

Where do you get all these docs anyway?

I get them on Honda's site for their employees.... (ISIS) I'm not one, but my prince is. This is where they'd find the bulletins at a dealer, be able to find the radio codes, look up parts, etc. I don't have accesss to all areas. But I share what I can.

That's cool. Un-nerving you call your guy "my prince" though :lmao:

My girl has pet names for me as well, although I can't type them here due to the word filters hahahaha.

The name kinda came without trying.... he's called me princess for a very long time. It started with Disney stuff..... then went on from there. Since I'm "princess" then he MUST be "prince". Although I normally refer to him as "MY prince". He's always been my shining knight, so it works!!:D

After nearly 33 years, I think I've earned the right to call him whatever comes to mind!!:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
