It seems like every shop I go to in Toronto is hating on Megan coilovers. I keep getting the same responses.

"Why would you put megans on a car you spent that much money on?"
"Megans will last a year tops"
"You get what you pay for. Megans ****"

Honestly, the list goes on. Just reading around on this board its safe to say that the majority of people here have megans. Be honest, how are they - quality wise, ride and performance? I was considering getting the EZ's.

I really need help choosing a full coilover suspension kit. I plan to drop 1.5 inches and drive the car throughout winter. So I'm worried about rust and seizing up.

I gotta get rid of the 4x4 status so please help me out.

I think you will find them highly respected here - they were redesigned a few years ago and I'll let others discuss that. I have about 2000 miles on mine and could not be happier. They ride softer or harder that stock depending on how I adjust them. On long trips>100 miles I ride them soft and they are lexus like. Around town I dial them up to 75% and they are very firm and nice. I'd buy them again - Total service from Mark at throwdownperformance.....

lol,..

I love when people do this to a Brand that has improved so much in there quality...

60% of the forums members/here and the other forums are running Megan Coilover's.. And to this day, there is not 1 bad review...

I have had my coilovers, for almost 1 year now i think or more i lost count because of so many Megan Coilovers i have installed for members here lol.. So i can't remember when i installed mine. lol

I am riding my coilovers more aggressive than anyone on these forums, i can assure you that, the quality of the megan coilovers is beyond what i had orginaly expected.

They ride like glen said how ever you want them to ride.. In my case, i have no choice but to ride them Fully Stiff on Damping level because of my aggressive wheel setup, i even had to upgrade the Rear spring of the coilover to a more stiff spring because they were to soft for my setup... The ride quality is great..

If you want to give me the shops number i will be more than happy to talk to them, and tell them to get the stick our of there ass, and stop talking about product they have probably never ridden on.

^ True story...

i was wondering the same thing about megan coils before i bought my set. however due to the number of good reviews i've heard, i decided to get them and im really happy with them. notice that its only people who DONT have them who say bad things about them from rumors going around.

anyways, whats the difference between EZ and SS? i've heard they go just as low as one another, but EZ has less dampening. however, what does that mean? does the EZ have the same RANGE of dampening from soft to hard? or can the SS go softer/harder? for example if the EZ and SS have the same range, wouldnt 10/32 on the SS be equivalent to 5/16 on the EZs? seems pointless to get SS in my opinion if thats the case. only advantage i see are pillowball mounts on the SS which arent even that important.

i got the SS because megan doesnt make EZs for acura TL's

Megan Coilovers are great! my friends got them on his s2k and they are awesome! i love taking that monster out for the handling...

how long can you expect coilovers to last in both cases of riding them soft and stiff?

a buddy of mine has megan coilovers on his Rsx type S and they stick to the ground .. than again i have no experience with tein or Bc racing to judge them

I just put Megan SS's on my ride today w/ spc camber arms..some fender rolling and vossens.. alignment getting zero'd in during the morning

coming from HFP kit , after having it for 3k miles...ill let u know my thoughts after this weekend of 'testing'.

i had stock for nearly 3 yrs... hfp for 8 months... and going to these SS's now...

Lets be honest, saying xx % here have them installed doesn't really say much as the only shocks/coil-overs are china built ones .
There no upper high end types available like Koni that last 100k and if not there lifetime replacement for them .
I think what the OP means if how many have good amount of mileage on them with no degrading of the shock (something like 50-70k miles) .

When I did my research about coilovers, generally Megans had good praise in terms of what you get for the price. EZ model has only been out for a short time so time will tell, but its probably not that different internally from their other models. What people were saying on other forums is they got about 35-40k out of Megans, some more depending on driving style. Some had problems off the bat.

But I opted out to buy Tein basic coilovers. I was willing to pay a little more for something out of Japan and they have a better following. I ended up buying OEM top hats for 80$ so its a complete unit, no need to mess with stock shocks for the hats. Dont be fooled by all these dampening adjustments, Megans has 16-32 adjustments but you will feel 2-3 settings AT MOST. For a cheap coilovers don't be thinking you will get tons of adjustability in terms of dampening, its more of a marking scheme.

I agree that you can't feel all 15 settings, I played around with all of them for a month or two and came up with 3 settings that suit me very well. I used a speedbump in the neighborhood to compare them and a sweeping turn down the street I would take at about 45 mph. I found :

1.full soft - makes the car float - softer than stock - nice for long interstate trips to reduce pavement joints. Speedbump - pogo's over it

2. About mid way (7-9) - slight harder than stock but still a nice ride around town and hold better than stock in a turn. Speedbump: goes up once then settles nicely

3. full hard - positively will jar your teeth - almost like running no shock at all - speedbump: transmits the bump straight to you!

as far as longevity, I'll be very happy to get 30 K out of these. I will gladly replace them at that interval if they go out....anything less and I will be concerned with their quality...

My Megans did'nt last 1yr on Toronto streets. I had 2 rears warranty replaced 10months in at about 25k use. Then had to get one of the rears replaced again 6 months later after that. I find the Megans mounts(esp the back) to be annoyingly noisy. Oh how I hated those top mounts...But then, they did ride fine.

I'll disagree about the dampening settings. You can definitely feel them. I was rubbing in some of the softer settings, stiffened them up a bit, no rub, obviously noticed the rougher ride vs the more comfy ride of the softer setting.

Plus coilovers are probably better served on the track where dampening / height adjustments are critical.

so what are you riding on now?

Im jus goin by what I had on my past cars (Teins and H&Rs) and they were great, never had any problems...n this is on bumass, pothole central Jersey streets (I'll b purchasing one these in the future for my coupe).......but on the other hand Megan EZ streets r a good deal @ around $700, so I guess it really depends on your preference and budget.
Tein SS- $1,000.
H&R Street - $1,125.
Megan EZ- $700.
