If it looks different than what you saw before....that is a clue right there that they were changed. I would venture a guess, only because I have spent the night in a Holiday Inn Express, that it is an "update" rather than a "downgrade"

It is not uncommon for manufactures to change their product from time to time.

Maybe a China knockoff product? Maybe supplied to Mobil from a different contractor/supplier? Maybe go buy the next filter where you bought the fist one. Maybe go buy one at the dealer and then compare?

This kinda thing happens all the time with filters. Sometimes as said the manufacturer just updates the manufacturing specs for the filters in question. My suggestion, take it back and go somewhere else to get the correct one, or use it as is and buy a different one for the next oil change. Filter specs change allot over the years, sometimes not for the better (ex. some of the A/C Delco filters out there)

Just bought a Mobil 1 M1-110A from Autozone, but it looks very different. Haven't been able to find out whether it is an update or not. Does anyone have a clue?
Are you perchance comparing the 110A to the 110?

This looks like a case for Scooby Doo and his team of investigators to get to the bottom of. Bet it's old man Caruthers from the amusement park. I'll go with Daphne and search parts stores over there...the rest of you guys stay here and search with Shaggy and Thelma.
