Took the wifes car on alittle trip today. Went from the gas pump in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to the University of Arkansas and back. 330 mile round trip from the exact gas pump to exact gas pump. 300 miles of this trip where highway with speeds ranging from 70 to 80 mph. A/C was not on while going to Arkansas in the weee early morning hours. But was on for the trip home this afternoon. The wife carrys about 50 lbs in the trunk at all times. Shes well prepaired at all times. :) I added to this two tool boxes and a assortment of pump parts. So all total somewhere around 200 lbs in the trunk. Tire psi 36 fronts, 34 rears. the car did a very soild 32 mpg :) I was very pleased with that. Car now has 5880 miles on it. Made basicly the same exact run when the car had 2000 or less on it and it got 27 mpg.

60 miles of the trip was at 80 mph on a toll road that has a 75 mph speed limit. 65 mph post speed limits where ran a soild 70 mph. Im sure if one had driven the speed limits and not floored it getting on the freeway and not floored it passing semi's with a huge grin mpg would have toped 34 mpg or better.

Same trip,,, my Ranger get 24 mpg if Im lucky at the same speeds and foot to the floor at certin times.

Im impressed.

4 or 6 cyl?

My LX 4cyl Auto just got 31 average on the current tank with somewhere around 1500 miles total on the car (mixed driving, a little spirited, and with the A/C on more than 50% of the time).

On a good day I can average 39 mpg if i do mostly highway and no a/c.

I have 30k miles on my 04.

My '05 LX I4 AT with 3500 miles averages about 29 mixed town/highway with the A/C on most of the time. Wife took it on a contract job for a couple of weeks of highway driving and averaged about 32 mpg, but the mileage was under 2000 at that point. The thing is still tight and I haven't done the first oil change yet, so I'm anticipating it will get better with time.

Howdy from KC,

My 2005 LX AT 4cyl has been getting between 28 to 30 MPG since new.. 4300 miles still on original oil.. One all highway tank was 31.5 MPG.

Happy Motoring

At 3500 miles I took my first road trip last weekend from Dallas to Joplin. Avg. 32 MPG with A/C on for the whole trip. Speed varied between 30MPH and 80MPH (lots of small towns in OK.) and included at least 30 minutes of crawl through construction. I started with only a half tank of gas which seemed endless. I ended up filling up in Checotah just because I needed to stop for other reasons and didn't want to use the facilities without buying something. :D

I had my mother-in-law and niece on the way back - mom road in the back seat and was as happy as a clam. She said it felt like we were riding on air and was thrilled with the leg room and quietness and her ability to carry on an unlabored conversation for the entire trip.

This weekend I'm taking mom and niece to Springfield (brother-in-law will meet us and take them the rest of the way back home to Indiana). Looking foreword to seeing the gas mileage. Coming from a small SUV, I still laugh every time I fill up the Accord. :lmao:

On a good day I average above 20MPG. :( My tanks are usually 60-80% city. Have yet to see more than 30MPG on the highway. I've seen 29MPG and that's about it. You can blame my right foot and the city lights... :D

..at 650 miles..

..I've fueled twice...first to level the playing field...who knows what dealer 'free tank of gas' really means? Second fuel stop gives 27.7 mpg.

..when do I safely dip into the throttle? Dealer gal (in the CA delta) said to keep it below 3500 (looking at my notes.......) But she didn't (or I missed it) say when I could push the tach past 3500.

....a dandy car. Insurance is $40 more than 2000 Solara V-6 5M I drove for five years. The 6MT is really a much better car. Head and shoulders.

best, ez

39 mpg is really good considering NY and NJ traffic. Do you think the mpg report on your Navi sys is really true though ?
I get strange estimates even long runs without A/C.
Mine is pretty close, so far it is usually off by about 1.3 mpg. I usually get a little over 1 mpg better than the nav says.

City driving kills my MPG. I get high teens to low 20's if I drive a lot of city driving.

It's pretty accurate I think. I've done a couple of tanks and calculated the MPG and it came out within 1-2MPG of the trip computer.

You're driving an I4 and you're still able to hit the teens??? Kinda makes me feel better now. The lowest I've seen so far was around 18 MPG... I hope I don't see it go any lower than that.

Ex V-6 6m....

...2nd tankfull for our '05 coupe at 775 odo = 25.6 (most in and around state capital). Reckon with add'l miles, fuel efficiency (which - at EPA 30 HWY - really isn't bad) will escalate big time....

...this is starting out to be a GREAT car..........

Numbers are in from my trip to Springfield this weekend. Avg. 32 MPG! This includes a 1 hour standstill just outside of Joplin on the way up and a 1 hour crawl just outside of Durant on the way back. I made the trip up on one tank of gas and the trip back on another. At a little over 4000 miles, I'm expecting mileage to go up just a little more and the car felt much "looser" after the trip. No matter what the mileage does, I love this car.

There was one time I was doing a LOT of city driving.

Also I think that the winter blend gas gives you worse mpg.

I think so too, but I usually get worse gas mileage in the summer since I'm running the A/C all the time :D It's either A/C or cook in the 100+ cabin temps!

Here's my best, worst and overall for my EX V6:

Best MPG - 28.00 (2,439 miles at fill up)
Worst MPG - 24.92 (1,770 miles at fill up - lots of A/C use)
Overall MPG - 26.78 (at the 3,104 mile mark)

Considering the V6, I'm very pleased with these numbers! The overall MPG was up and down until about the 2,100 mile mark and has been steadily increasing ever since.
