Anyone experiencing multiple failures on ACC, Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Auto Braking, and Power Steering Assist?

This has happened to me twice after car was parked in sunlight in 85F+ weather. As I drove away incessant warnings appeared on console and looks like multiple systems are failing. There was absolutely no discernible problems with braking or steering. The ACC, along with other features, simply would not engage.

This is apparently related to forward camera(s) mounted behind windshield sensing they have overheated. Once the windshield cools off, or the car is parked in shade for a few minutes, all the issues cease. A reset, maybe?

Anyway, love my 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring, after owning a 2014, and a 2018 HAH. Still a great vehicle, but something strange is going is happening here. Hopefully, a bad temp sensor....

I am sorry you have experienced this. Has to be something faulty due to heat, right?
I am parked in full sunshine all day, pretty much everyday. I use a custom cut sunscreen in the windshield too, with the reflective side outwards, so my camera area must feel like it is in a skillet!
The paint on my Accord is probably not going to last due to this constant exposure.
Hope you are able to get it rectified soon

Doesn't the Honda emblem in the grill also contain a bunch of sensors? Could be an issue there as well, but to your point, the windshield does get pretty not. I recall there being some other posts about how hot the windshield and dash get

Thanks!! Good point. Could be any sensor/system tied to all the systems that alert to the failures... This will be fun at service center. Glad the car is like 3 months old and still under full warranty...

This has been happening to me as well. I am under the impression it is a battery going low issue? I have been to 2 dealerships but no one has come up with a fix. I have since called Honda America and have a case manager working on it. It is not only scary, but super frustrating. My car is also only 2 months old, and the first issue with the warning lights was less than 1,000 miles. I also noticed my battery meter very rarely goes above 2 or 3 bars when driving or sitting idle.

That’s not good!
There are tons of sensors and when one doesn’t work, I suspect it can be a tedious job to pinpoint the less than perfect one.
Are you referring to the hybrid battery meter on the left sector of the instrument cluster? 2-3 bars isn’t right. My engine starts when it gets that low. I rarely see 100% full, but often anywhere in between.
I wish good luck to you.

Mine appears to be charging fine, no issues with battery at all. My avg mpg since mid February is like 48.5. Just drove it an hour ago after sitting in 80 degree garage for two hours, operated flawlessly. It acts up after leaving an open sky parking lot in bright Sun at high temps, otherwise perfectly normal in every aspect. If I park in shade, doesn't happen at all...

My 2023 HAH Touring does have the update issue addressed by many here, but doubt they are related...

I have a constant monitoring of the 12V battery voltage and most of the time it shows a charging voltage of 14.6V. Sometimes you may notice that the charging is turned off and then it shows the battery voltage 12.5-12.8V. If you have a multimeter you can test the charging voltage while driving using e.g. cigarette lighter male plug with leads from Amazon.
In addition, you can enable hybrid battery charging using the e Button/Charge Mode.

Do you see a Camera temperature too high message? The manual says this when you see that warning:
  • Use the climate control system to cool down the interior and, if necessary, also use defroster mode with the airflow directed towards the camera.
  • Start driving the vehicle to lower the windshield temperature, which cools down the area around the camera.
To help reduce the likelihood that high interior temperatures will cause the camera’s sensing system to shut off, when parking, find a shady area or face the front of the vehicle away from the sun. If you use a reflective sun shade, do not allow it to cover the camera housing. Covering the camera can concentrate heat on it.

On my '16 CVT with Sensing, those indicators can all turn on if the camera gets too hot. I learned that when I started using a sun shade. So now I make sure there's some 'breathing space' for the camera when the shade is used, and I always crack the windows a little bit and tilt up the moon roof to let hot air escape when parked in the sun.

Just to clarify if it wasn't clear before, this is normal behavior. Honda uses dual mode charging so it will not stay in the 14 volt range all the time if there's not a significant load on the system.

Just went to My Honda and found that info regarding the camera in the Honda Sensing section. Looked at the housing behind rear view mirror and it is vented on bottom and top. The defroster would definitely blow cold air on bottom in AC mode until normal AC could take over.

It also mentioned the exact scenario causing my 2 experiences and parking in shade. Will crack the sunroof a bit in the future as well when forced to park in hot and direct sunlight. All the systems that failed are components in the Honda Sensing system.

Thanks for the info!!

@PR8 - You're welcome.

One more thingy, even with the moon roof fully tilted up, pull its interior slide shade forward so it covers most of the glass in the roof. That way you'll provide less direct sun exposure and heat buildup than if you leave the shade completely open.

I typically pull the slider to about ~2 inches from being fully closed. I have a coupe so you'll have to decide what's optimal for your 4-door.

@ Ranch

Thanks again!!

That will make it cool off much fasterr as the heat vents out the roof. Great point on the 2" gap when cracked open...

This happened to me twice on my 10th gen Hybrid when I used a windshield cover and somewhat covered the exhaust ports on the camera housing. It only happened when I covered the little exhaust things. Since figuring this out, I leave a gap around the camera housing and it has not happened again. I live in the the high desert, so temperatures have reached well over 108 the past few years with no issues.

Update:

After 3 times at the dealership and with all the warning lights coming on after starting, and car features not working, ie, regen paddles not working. Dealer was able to get a code for “battery cell voltage sensor internal circuit “ they are replacing the battery condition monitor module. They said there are 2 pages on their internal tech forum for this issue.

Glad you got it fixed!

Do you really expect peeps employed at the dealership to read/understand their own internal tech info...?

I am having the same issues. I can’t get the car in to have it serviced until next Monday. (Touring) Did replacing the battery condition monitor module fix your problem?
Thanks in advance
