I recently purchased a 2017 Accord Sport SE and initially thought of just de-badging the Accord/Sport/SE emblems. The more I thought of it, I decided I want to paint them gloss black and reinstall. However, my OCD is kicking in and what to place them back exactly where they were originally located and need pics of the measurements if possible (distance from edges of trunk lid, distance below tail light, etc.). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Make a template out of cardboard or something. I'd use a thin piece of foam and cut out where the emblems go. This is similar to what the factory does.

Edit: The factory uses a rubber or nylon template, but you can easily create one. Look @ 4:30 for reference.

Just curious on your method to remove them and what you are using to re-stick them.

Oft said...your lack of planning is not my/our emergency/problem. Nor, for that matter, is your lack of willingness to put in the minimal effort needed to figure this out yourself. :headbash:
So then to my initial point of thinking I'll never reinstalling them be considered a lack of planning?

On a more serious note, glad to see a newcomer to the site is greeted with side remarks rather than a solution to the original post. I also read a comment on one of the threads here where someone stated to the effect of "if your not going to answer the OP with an answer to the question why bother replying? And yes, I can take many a jokes. :smile

Glad to see most of those that replied have never realized after the fact the should've done things differently...

I did make it by a dealership today and took pictures with a tape measure to get the specs.

For removal and maybe because they haven't been on long, I was able to just lift a corner carefully and begin pulling them away from the trunk. There was some left over residue that I heated with a hair dryer and used Goo Gone to clean it off. I've removed emblems off of other vehicles in the past and used waxed dental floss to slide behind the emblem and used a sawing motion to remove them.

As for reinstalling, I ordered some 3M VHB double side tape on eBay, 3in x 4ft 3M DC2011PET, in which I'm going to trace the emblem on the tape and then cut to fit. The tape should be in this week so I'll try to finish it soon.

I also painted the Honda and Accord emblems with Krylon Fusion gloss black. I left the Special Edition emblem the same as the lettering is already black. My only question mark is how it will look since the SE emblem is outlined in chrome.

Double sided tape seems a little thick to use on an emblem. I thought they used adhesive for that. The thicker the tape is, the harder it will be to clean in and around the emblem.

Mfg uses a thin, double sided "tape". Equivalent's consumer available.

+1

The tape I mentioned is equivalent to the tape used by the auto manufacturer to apply the emblems. The one I ordered is only 1.1 mil. thick, and they actually make it even thinner. I looked at pieces of the adhesive left behind on my emblems and it appeared to be about 1 mil. thick which is why I went with the 1.1 mil.
