Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience with the Nexus 5 and the Accord?

I have the '13 EX-L and am currently using an iPhone 5.

I'm a big fan of the iPhone 5 because of how well it integrates with the Accord.

Does the Nexus 5 work as well? Does it charge over USB? Pandora over USB? Audio over USB? Call history? etc.

Thanks

I have the nexus 5 and it works very well. It cannot do Pandora like on iOS but can stream over BT. Have not tried audio over USB but sure it will work. If your phone is on BT before entering the car, my music on PowerAmp will play within a few seconds. Also, you will be able to charge over USB as well.

Enjoy your new phone :)

From my experience, Nexus 4/5 will charge through USB, but will not play audio through USB (with Google Play), as it seems that Honda did not include the appropriate drivers. However, if that is a concern, audio through Bluetooth is the simple workaround.

I have not tried call history, so someone else may be able to chime in there.

Recent call history does show on the iMid. Right now, I cannot use the BT controls on the steering wheel to make a call

What is the iOS + Pandora experience like? I have the Nexus 5 as well, and Pandora appears to work as expected. The screen on my phone blackens to only the Pandora logo and a quit button, and on the iMid I have the option of reviewing stations, and liking+unliking music.

My nexus 5 doesn't do this with the Pandora app

I have both a 2013 Honda Accord LX and a Nexus 5.

Every bluetooth feature works flawlessly with the phone!

The Pandora app integrates seamlessly for me. If/when I leave the Pandora option on in the car, as soon as the bluetooth connection between my phone and the car is made, Pandora starts right up on the Nexus 5.
My like/dislike buttons work too.
That being said, I do see comments about it not working for some people with their Android devices. I am curious if that's due to my Accord having different software? (I only picked up the car 3 weeks ago.)

Charging the phone via the USB port works fine, but I still prefer using a 12v charger. Two main reasons for this:
1) Whenever I plug my phone to the USB port with a micro usb cable, it puts the Nexus 5 into a file transfer protocol that doesn't turn off until you restart the phone.
2) Charging with the USB port charges the phone in USB mode, as opposed to AC mode. There are plenty of forums and articles that go into detail the differences between the charging types, but to give you a quick explanation: USB mode = SLOW, AC mode = FAST

Voice commands work pretty well, but this is more of a Honda thing than a Nexus thing.

Call history gives a full call history. And the automatic Text message notification/reading works on the phone as well.

All in all, I'd say go for the Nexus 5, you won't be disappointed.

Mine just arrived - everything works almost perfectly! Only thing that didn't work is reading SMS messages but I never use that feature anyway.

Anyone wondering in the future - it's worth it.

My only two gripes with the phone so far (nothing to do with the car):

1) No orientation lock. (Seriously!?)
2) No lockscreen notifications, I was used to those on the iPhone as a quick way to see what I received.

Get Power Toggles on the Google Play store. Free, and it has rotation lock.

There's also the option of unlocking, rooting, and hacking it. Stock firmware on a Nexus is for rookies. :naughty: Granted, there's less need for it than there used to be given how far Android has come, but it's still fun to tinker.

To remain on topic, I have no idea how you could make Pandora work through USB on an Android device. My understanding is that Apple's proprietary connector is what enables your accessories to control the phone. Everyone else uses a regular micro-USB, which is just fine for charging and connecting to your computer, but it doesn't give your accessories the same level of control over the device. I could be wrong; my Android knowledge is a little dated since I haven't messed with it in several months.

In short, it should charge over USB, and there's always Bluetooth for everything else.
