Hi Accord Family,

I recently had my 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE serviced with OEM brake pads and rotors. However, I was given aftermarket rotors instead, despite being charged a premium. The brand of the rotors is not recognizable, and this raises concerns about the quality of the brake pads as well.

I initially trusted the service, but after checking the serial numbers and part information, I discovered that the rotors are indeed third-party. The brake pads appear to be Honda-branded, but I cannot confirm if they match what I paid for since I cannot match the part or serial number with the pads.

I was told that the original parts were out of stock, so they used third-party parts without my consent (pure lie). Additionally, when I picked up the car, the service advisor was not even there even though he called me and I was there in 15 min. I already followed up with him and I have an appointment next week to address these issues, he needs manager to work this out but I would appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this matter effectively and please confirm these pads and rotor (BR74031G).


I believe these are oem serial or parts no.

45022-T3R-A02 SET, PAD FR (17CL-103 Part interchanges with part#45022T3RA01

45251-TX4-A50 DISK (17",25T,FNC 108 Part interchanges with part#45251T2FA82

Thank you. I was charged over $150, which is frustrating. Who can you trust if not a Honda dealership? Their deceptive practices are evident—they're only reacting because they got caught. If I hadn’t trusted my instincts, I might have missed it. As soon as the person wasn’t there when I went to pick up the car, I knew something was wrong. This is also the same place that disconnected my battery on this service with emission code still not set.

And now I see that they charged twice for tech fees, one for oil and another for rotor/pad change.

You're getting too caught up on the fact that it's not OEM. There are tons of other options out there is can easily out perform OEM at a cheaper cost.

Get them to do a partial refund for using non-OEM parts.
 
What about the Pad? is that the correct one for 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE?

I can't find these numbers anywhere on the pad

The #'s on the back of the brake pads are most likely batch and type of material #'s but the casting @ the top says Honda, so I would believe they are probably genuine. Akebono was the oem supplier to Honda (I belive on my 2017).
 
Nissin and Akebono have been Honda's brake suppliers for years.

A non-OEM disk isn't a big deal from a performance/safety standpoint; the braking action is done by the compound that the pads are made out of.

But your point about being charged for OEM and not getting it, at least with the disks, is valid.

Exactly and the cost of those rotors are significantly lower than what I was charged. I also checked a lil more into them and this site, Quality-Built BR74031G - Vented Smooth Premium Coated Disc Brake Rotor, Sold Individually poor and very noisey.

I've used a bunch of different brands. I've used rotors from Bosch, Powerstop, Centric. Brake pads from Wilwood, Akebono, EBC, Powerstop.

A budget rotor no doubt. I have had good luck with Raybestos Advantage rotors. They were the middle grade ones. Unknown to me, Raybestos sold their brake division and the line up was changed (now they are the top of the line offering and an increase in price). I bought their element 3's for the front of my 2017 about a year ago and paired them with Akebono pads. Both rotors warped under 12,000 miles. Today I am having them replaced with EBC rotors (made in Great Britain) and new Akebono pads. The top of NAPA's line were good but they have gotten so expensive, well over $100 ea. I would suggest the OP look for a good independent shop that would let you bring your own parts. The EBC rotors came as a set, my brother ordered 2 sets by mistake and I have 4 rotors for the front. Guess I will donate the other set to my mechanic. I would suggest to look on Rock Auto and skip the economy line. I mostly use Akebono brake pads but have used both the Hawk and EBC Green stuff in the past (harsher on rotors, not that good until heated up). My mechanic sells Adaptive ones from NAPA to all his customers.
 
Blatant fraud. I'm surprised at some of the responses.

They should not only re-do the job with OEM parts, but also forfeit the labor charges, because your time is wasted. You have a good case in small claims court.

Mechanics are known to be shady, dealer mechanics are no different.

Exactly. Additionally, my dashcam and the battery was disconnected because they were startled by the dashcam. I'll decide based on how my next appointment goes. Let's see how they handle this. Thanks for your support and advice.

I would do my own oil changes, rotor, and brake pad work, but living in the city without a house isn't ideal for this kind of work.

I've had my dashcam intentionally disconnected and left that way by only 1 Honda dealership. Have never gone back there.

3 other Honda dealerships have never touched my dashcam and I've gone back to them again.

At least they could turn it back on when test driving. The whole purpose of the dashcam is to provide evidence in case of a collision or accident.

There aren't many Honda service centers near me, so I am stuck with only one choice. This could be my last Honda.

Given your experience with them, how do you know they even test drove it?

Hi all! I wanted to update you all. After servicing (giving me what I paid for, new pad, new rotor), the advisor claimed the parts were aftermarket (Bosch) and better than OEM but couldn’t explain why there was no brand or Bosch name on them. It’s disturbing that a Honda service center would handle things this way, worse than low end mechanic shop. They should face serious consequences for such practices. I love Honda car but these dealership are tarnishing the brand image completely.

Given your experience with them, how do you know they even test drove it?
After they unplugged my dashcam, I investigated the issue. They took the car for a test drive, and I suspect they became nervous after installing aftermarket rotors instead of OEM. I can't think of another reason for their actions.
 
My sympathies for your experience with dealerships. I have 2 Honda dealers I can confidently go to. One is the dealer where I bought my Accord. Best dealer I've ever experienced. It is 60+ miles away and worth the trip. My 2nd choice is 1/2 hour away and not far behind the first one, satisfaction-wise. I haven't yet found a good dealer for my Toyota. The purchasing experience was good but the dealer is too far to go for regular maintenance. The other 2 Toyota dealers I've gone to suck (pretty much the worst). Trying a new one tomorrow for an ATF change (which is ridiculously inconvenient on the vehicle).
