Hey Guys,

So today was the first time I drove my car in heavy rain. I used my OEM wiper blades expecting them to function perfectly and without any noises at all. Instead, what I observed was a lot of friction and an annoying squeaky noise.

Is that the same for you guys? I searched the forum, but it seems like people generally look favorably towards the Honda OEM wipers.

BTW, I do polish my windows with Zainos Show Car Polish. Think that might affect it?

Thanks!

I thought the oem was good, try cleaning the wiper blades first, and then clean the windshield and use some rain-x if you like those stuff, i like them because it helps me use less wiper.
I usually buy Bosch Icon, or Bosch(Wal-mart) Forget the name of the Bosch that sell at wal mart, they are cheaper than Bosch icon, but they do the same job.

Try any bosch see if you like them.

Its worth extra bucks since it is directly related to your safety.

I use Bosch ICON wipers on all 3 of my vehicles.
They work great.

im just about to swap out my original wiper inserts for oem ones i got. it was starting to streak a good amount, and its only like $5-6 or something, so w/e haha. my friend used rain-x, and it was good, but not near what my oem wipers were like, streaks even when new.

My OEM wipers were/are awesome, iver replaces once and they have been great and continue to work great.

To the same token on our odyssey when we bought it the PO had installed some kind of crap winter wipers, I replaced them with Bosch (Wal mart)which didnt work well, (Michelin) which didnt work well either, and finally went to dealer and bought the OEM Blades with inserts, and have never looked back. Your results may vary..

Other cars I had good luck with the autozone branded teflon wipers..

Recently switched back to oem. The do squeak at the end of each wipe. I think its just cuz the windshield is clean. But they wipe very clean. Before the oem's i been using bosch ICON (been throught about 4 sets by now). I didnt like them cuz they would work nice for 2 weeks and start to chatter and fumble after. This happen to every set I had. I clean them every 2 weeks, no luck.

So for me, i am sticking with oem (except during snow, where I would use the bosch only because it wont freeze).

We have had no problems with OEM.

About 12 years ago there was over the counter teflon edged wiper blades. I forget the manufacturer. Since moving away from California I have not seen them in our area.

They lasted a good 3 years of snow, rain and daily driving. My wife misses them on the Solara, as they were great performers and did not squeek. So far I have yet to find anything like em where I live.

I did quick search.... Trico seems to make something similar, but they claim to be new and improved designed Winter / Chill shield.

my accord is using oem, and my civic is using bosch.

both are ok, wipe clean, no streak. Just clean the blades weekly during your car wash

+3 on Silblade. OEM lasted me 2 yrs before it start missing a spot. Had the Silblade on for a year now and still going strong.

i honestly have never read a bad review of silblade yet, and i have tried to find negative press....

there is rubber & silicone. beam blades with no external frame, contoured. then there is the normal oem bracketed blade. most tests i have read do not really differentiate much between most blades. depending on winter conditions present & performance after 6 months, most blades perform somewhat similar. the newest technology would be a combination of silicone beam blade. the beam blade (rain-x latitude or bosch icon) advantage is that there are not individual pressure points caused by the external frame. that frame's pivot points is where the hardest contact is applied, leaving the tail edge always streaking due to non-contact. so, the beam or curved blade hugs the curvature of the windshield. some cars have less/more curvature, so a beam blade may not be best. for the accord coupe, i can clearly say that the rain-x latitude crushes & embarrasses the oem blade w/ the evident contouring of our windshields. the silicon blades apply the same principle rain-x was founded upon. the silicon blades leavee behind a miniscule film to aid in the blades movement, not only clearing/cleaning better, but also prolonging life. tests have shown a 20% increase in longevity w/ silicone blades. there is a new silicone beam rain-x, i would go for that. i always apply rain-x during every wash. i use it on allllll the glass, even the side mirrors. but, i have had my latitudes for over a year now, they perform the same as day 1. they are also aerodynamic. i have a pair on my porsche that sees 140mph+ alll the time & these blades have no issue. the normal porsche designed blades did have issues at high speeds in the rain. moot point w/ a honda, but still. thats good technology in a cheap package. well, not cheap, but the same price range as any top tier blade. hope that helped.

edit - - the newest rainX beam blade is called the rainX Repel wiper blade series. it has the same backless (newer beam technology with more even pressure along the blade, according to bosch, piaa, & rainX) tech & also applies rainX water beading solution after being activated for 5mins. this is on their main website. this blade would be my choice over the bosch silicone b/c after 6months, all reviews say they **** or perform mcuh worse. all reviews i have read for the latitudes say they last the longest whilst maintaining great performance. i can definitely concur with that. they are silent beauties when i need them. i usually just pull the lever down once or twice. i rarely have to turn them fully on b/c of the rainX applications.

..........in addition to the above endorsement, one of the local Honda dealers (we have six with 25 miles of our state capitol) gets under $10/2 refill blades plus free installation. They work fine. No complaints from this sailor!

ez....
