I've been swimming through the forums, Reddit, YouTube and whatever else on the oil consumption issue for two days now.

I just bought a 2009 EX-L Accord 2.4 K24Z3 (right?) with 94k miles. I got maintenance records from Carfax of all the oil changes and such since 2009. The previous owner seemed to never let the car pass 5k miles or 6 months between oil changes. So far the car has about 1200 miles on the most recent oil change.

I know this has been beaten to literal DEATH. But one question I want to know is, what are the real number of 8th gen 2.4 with oil consumption issues? As well as does the Z2 or Z3 both have the issue more than one than the other?

Every forum I get on suddenly changes subject, or the V6 guys chime with their problems etc etc. Thanks guys!

Those 2.4 engines have always had oil consumption issues, Honda was notified about them as far back as 2004 from what I have read. It was found to be the oil control rings wern't manufactured or installed properly, but 1 qt. of oil used per 1K miles seems to be an industry standard & Honda says unless the engine is using more than that then it is acceptable. Most of the oil consumption seems to start when the engine gets into higher mileage, above 120K. There were mfg. problems on some of the 8th. gen. 2.4's that caused more oil consumption but only on certain engines, that is why those engines got an extended warranty. Carbon build up in the cylinders & blockage of the oil return passageways can also lead to more oil consumption. Sub a qt. of Marvel Mystery Oil during an oil change to clean out the oil return passageways, get a top end de-carbonation done once every yr. or every 2 yrs. Keeping the oil changed every 5-6K also helps. Weather your engine will start to use oil or when, you will just have to wait & see. Check the oil level weekly as low or dirty oil will cause excessive wear on the timing chain & guides, welcome to DA - Only Honda would have the info. of what engines had more oil consumption issues.

So, my question is, it don't matter what 2.4 model in the 8th gen? It appears to me the Z3 is in my model year since mine is a 2009 EX-L.

The extended warranty was 8 yrs. or 120K miles, whichever came first, so you are out of that period. Was the defect in the 8th. gen. only related / had more problems to a certain engine #, that I don't know.

I have the same question ,mine is a 2012 accord LX / k24z2 177hp
Well after these almost three years and 40k miles of ownership. I can safely say that my ‘09 l4 K24Z3 doesn’t consume enough oil for me to worry.
I have noticed that certain brands do “consume” a little more than others. Driving habits may also play a roll in the consumption. I am not very nice to this car RPM wise. It idles a lot (Wyoming winters), I am always accelerating hard and sometimes go miles at a time at 100mph+.

LOL, I drove past a Wyoming trooper with my cruise control set to 87mph and nothing happened. One of the few states I have driven with 80mph speed limits.
I rode with a cop friend once. Part of the day, he was radaring traffic. Because everybody goes a bit over the speed limit, he just set the notication beep for 10 mph above the speed limit, otherwise it would just be beeping for eveyone. I'm guessing that trooper in Wyoming had it similarly set for 10 above. You were almost there.
