I don't really know what to say, although I thought I'd post it just in case someone else has or maybe will run into this issue. It's very clear what happened here, I think. I'm just going to make an appointment at the dealer to have them fix the problem.

There were no impacts on the taillight. No one rests against it. The other side has a lot more "wiggle" room (body gap).

Just bring it up with the dealership, you are still under 3 year warranty, they should and will take care of it for you free of charge.

I simply loosened the mounting screws of the tail light from the trunk area, sand/scrape the offending edge of the tail light housing, spaced the tail ight housing away from the paint with some plastic sheets, cleaned/touched up the damaged paint and called it a day.

I would totally do it myself if the taillight wasn't cracked. :(

Ah, didn't notice the crack in the tail light housing, the crack is obviously due to the stress from the interference between the light housing and the body sheet metal.

You shouldn't have any issue getting a free new tail light housing from the dealership and they should ensure it doesn't interfere with the newly touched up body panel.........

same issue. take to the dealership, make them repaint it! mine is in the paint booth right now

Honestly look at the taillight, look at the center where the cracks begin, it looks like someone stuck something in there to steal the light... paint peeling is one thing, but cracked headlight in the same spot where the paint peeled is pretty obvious it was a theft attempt. just a guess
