Sup Guys,

I have a 06 accord ex with navigation and am interested in replacing the speakers. I have no interest in replacing the head unit. However i'm stuck on which speakers to get, I'm limiting it to two brands and for intent purposes would like to keep this review only on these two brand of speakers. Does any one know which of the two set up will provide the most clarity yet produce a little bass? Im not interested in an amp or bassbox. i want to focus on the speakers.

Set Up 1:
PIONEER TS-A6992R 6 x 9" 5-WAY 460W (Rear)
PIONEER TS-A1672R 6-1/2 3WAY 220W (Front)

Set Up 2:
POLK AUDIO BD691 6x9" 3-way 300W (Rear)
POLK AUDIO DB651S 6.5 2-way 180W (Front)

Any Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I agree. Polk rocks! I had polk speakers in my old civic and will probably get them for my new Accord. They have the best range of any speakers I've ever used.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was also leaning towards polk but needed that confirmation.

I hope you're not disappointed, because like I said, both options are overkill for the stock head unit, and both need an amp to really come to life.

The stock speakers are just right for the stock headunit, and with upgraded speakers you will surely gaining clarity in the high and mid frequencies, but you may loose some bass, because the stock headunit doesn't have the power expected by the upgraded speakers.

The good thing is that you can upgrade the speakers first, and buy the amp later if you're not happy with the initial results.
Yea, i would like to think that i want to keep it simple but im pretty sure this is what i'll end up doing. Will adding the polk speakers alone damage the head unit in anyway? Also if i decide too later, could i add an aftermarket amp to the factory head unit or will this damage the headunit?

Thanks for the feedback :)

Theoretically, yes. But speaker manufacturers don't follow any standard for speaker sensitivity, like they do now for amplifier and headunit power.

Pioneer, for example, had to change the power rating of their headunits from 22 watts rms to 14 watts rms once they started following the CEA 2006 standard instead of their own standard.

So for speakers, you don't know if 92dB sensitivity from Polk = 92 dB sensitivity from Pioneer. And we don't know the sensitivity specs of the stock speakers to begin with, so there's no way to make an exact comparison.
It's easy to lie on power ratings....efficiencies is another story. I think you're really going for a stretch here. In 8 years of installing as a certified MECP installer I have never installed a set of speakers that had less bass than factory, unless it was the $19.99 papercone Pioneer's. Also, the magnets are weak on those factory speakers to shave weight for fuel efficiencies. Aftermarkets will have much more bass.

Gaviota - It may very well be. You ask your question like efficiency is the only measure of a speakers performance and also assuming you actually know the real world efficiencies of those speakers. I would agree with your argument if you asked if the speaker would sound better.

Like you said though, we shall see

I read that the Polk's i was considering getting for the rear "POLK AUDIO BD691 6x9" 3-way 300W (Rear)" doesnt provide any bass. While im not looking for earthquaking bass, i would like to have some form of bass. Can anyone confirm this?

Hi there, I have a 2007 Accord EX-L Navi. I've seen this thread and I'm wanting to put in the Polks or Pioneer speakers. What about the really small front 2 speaks by the front windsheild? Can we change those too? Also I dont want to put in an AMP, so I hope that the Polks or Pioneers would work fine.

Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the stock speakers & add new ones?
