2020 Accord Touring

Wife's vehicle (I have a Passport). When you shut off the car, the radio, your bluetooth connection, everything shuts off immediately. I haven't seen this in a vehicle ever. Usually cars wait until you open the door or it times out after XX minutes.

She took it to the dealer for routine maintenance and they said they fixed it - they didn't.

Is this normal? Is there a setting we missed?

Thanks!

On every Honda vehicle that I've owned, the radio and all electronics (with the exception of the power windows) shut off with the ignition. The power windows still function for about 30 seconds or until you open your door. Your car is working 100% as designed.

The 2018-current Odyssey and 2019-current RDX are the only two Honda/Acura models I'm aware of that retain audio system operation until the driver's door is opened after the engine is shut off.

Most Hondas will continue to supply power to the windows and sunroof for several minutes after the engine is shut off.

Every GM model I owned since 1992 had "retained accessory power". A 2016 Ford Fiesta I inherited a couple of years ago not only kept the radio on, but would allow you to listen to the radio even without turning the vehicle on (it would turn back off after an hour or so in this state).

My 2020 Mazda CX-5 shut off the radio and will allow manual operation of the windows, but the automatic open/close functions are disabled.

In short, it seems like every automobile I've owned and driven has different operating logic when it comes to accessory operation.

I wish every vehicle had logic similar to GM's - I often want to shut the engine off while continuing to listen to a song, a newscast, or a Bluetooth phone call and I can't be the only one. :)

I gotta mess with the settings more on my 10th gen but I do miss this feature from my 2012 8th gen coupe. I can turn off the car but the Bluetooth will still work and I can continue the conversation on the phone. I was a bit surprised too the 1st time I shut the car off while on the phone.

Agreed. What's hilarious is the "challenged" tech at the dealership who thought this wasn't as designed and "fixed" it and then went to say he fixed it when a) it's not broken and b) he didn't change anything. And people wonder why dealership service departments are dying.

That would be a feature I would welcome Honda adding, if it can be retrofitted especially. I too often listen to the radio for a few minutes after I arrive where I'm going, particularly if I'm early for a meeting.

On my '16 EX CVT Coupe, I set the parking brake first and then shut the engine off with the shift in Neutral. The head unit stays on but there's a warning on the dash: "Shift into Park". As soon as I shift into Park the head unit shuts off...

Always remember to set the parking brake and maybe also keep your foot on the brake petal. If you roll, it's your fault, not mine. :cautious:

Alas, that won't work for me with a 6MT. :)

This was perfectly normal to me - because I've never seen the radio stay on after you turn off an ignition, except for GM vehicles...never knew some of the older gen Hondas did this too?

Funny that my 2000 GM truck has this feature but not newer Accords. Kinda nice but you can always just leave the key in accessory position.
Key? What is this device you speak of?

Yes it is normal operation on my 18' sport, and annoying! Gone are the days of turning they key back a position to accessory instead of fumbling with a button and waiting for the headunit to reboot...

I have a 6MT and sometimes I can push the start button to full accessory mode, wait a minute or two, and start it without the whole thing rebooting. But it doesn't work every time. Turning the car off always kills everything. 20 year old cars keep the acc going, super annoying...but I still love the car.

You're not.

Yes they did/do. My '07 does this and it's a nice feature.
