I was wondering how to remove the front license plates, when I got them from the dealer they were already drilled in. Anyone know the proper way to remove and fill the holes?

take off license plate, remove screw. Look closely, there are 2 more bolts that connect the holder to the front bumper.

to fill the hole, bondo and repaint

and i don't suggest you remove the license plate, because I got stopped in Toronto for not having a front plate.

I suggest you look into hidden plate holders (manual or electronic one). It'll save you some headaches.

oh i get stopped all the time, nothing usually happens they just check my record

You shouldn't have to bondo anything. At least not on an 2010. The bolt holes are hidden underneath. (same with 7th gen)

I took mine off in about 1 minute. Looks much better I think.

But yeah, if your local laws require a front plate, I'd leave it be.

I was pulled over by motorcycle patrolman for not having license plate and issued me the ticket. Having license plate mounted in front will save you from getting trouble & being ticketed by CHP (California Highway Patrol) if you have NO front license plate mounted when cash-less bridge toll transponder fails to scan wirelessly and can't record the front bumper because NO front license plate was mounted. Good luck and enjoy the fun time with cops.

True, the 8th gen shouldn't have any drilled holes, but the sad truth is, some dealerships will. Even with factory instructions not to drill, some will take the time and effort to drill in the middle of the plate mount where there's an indentation and use a screw to help secure the plate mount, when it's not needed.

Sometimes, dealerships will even do two holes into the bumper for no reason.

I'm lucky my dealership didn't drill mine in, along with adding pinstripes and the dealership decal (they just bought the dealership from the old owners who went out of business because of construction on the main highway next to them that took two years to finish).

Since the license plate bracket bolts on from under the bumper, if the dealer drilled holes into your's, I would demand they replace your bumper cover.

I agree it should be fastened from underneath, it installed correctly. My car came with one and since it was used it had a few marks on the bumper from dirt. Nothing that good rubbing compound cant fix.

So happy Saskatchewan doesn't have the front plate anymore!

I have the perfect solution!!

Take your car back to the dealer and have them put a new bumper on your car!! Why are they drilling holes into the bumper of your new car? Is that really the only way to attach a front license plate? That's a bunch of B.S. if it is!!:thumbsdow

Ummmm..... I think you would be "demanding" as such forever! No matter how petulant you got, I doubt there is a dealer in America who would replace the bumper cover in this situation. But one can always try, eh? ;-)

I guarantee you that if you drive a vehicle home from a reputable dealer and noticed that they butchered your bumper, they would be replacing it at no cost to you.
