I am trying to find out what are the features on the standard security system that came with my 2004 Accord V6 EX.

The feature that interests me mostly is the 20 second lockdown of the car after the last door is shut. Is this feature available on the standard security system? If so, how do I activate it? Also, does anyone know where I can find the manual for the security system.

Thanks in advance.

ok, i have the manual for the security system because i purchased it separately for my 04 lx coupe. what you need to do is set your system to automatic/passive mode in order to have the 20 second automatic arming. the factory preset is manual mode. here are the instructions to set the system to automatic mode:

the following steps must be completed within 5 seconds.

1) insert the key in the ignition
2) remove the key
3) insert the key again
4) remove the key again
5) insert the key once more. the car should sound its horn ONCE. this confirms that the security system has been set to Automatic mode.

in automatic mode, the system will set 20 seconds after the last door is shut. you will see the red light blinking rapidly for those 20 seconds. if a door is opened before the 20 seconds is up, the system stops counting down, then starts over once that door is shut. btw, you can still arm/disarm with the remote in this mode.

now, if you want to set it back to Manual mode:

1)turn the key from ON to LOCK
2)open a door and close it (this starts the 20 sec. exit delay)

steps 3 thru 7 must be done within 5 seconds.

3) insert key in ignition
4) remove key
5) insert key
6) remove key
7) insert key. the horn should sound TWICE to confirm the system is set to MANUAL mode.

im not sure if you have to wait until the system is set before doing steps 3 - 7.

This didnt work

I don't know why but this didn't work. I messed around with it for a while just now. The horn didn't sound. Do you know the model number of your security system? I want to find out if I have the same one. I really do not think that Honda made two security systems. If you or anyone know the model on mine that would be great info. Dealers are telling me that I have to purchase some other system for it to do this. I don't believe them. Thanks so much for posting all this.

here's the model number, etc....

Fits Year 2003 - 2004 - Genuine Factory Honda Accord Main Alarm Unit & (08E55-SDA-100A) attachment.

it is specified as being an accessory for the LX model so maybe it is different.

CAUTION ! ! !

Just be aware that if you have it in automatic mode, you greatly increase the risk of locking your keys inside.

On 2 separate occasions, my daughter's Celica locked itself while going through a car wash. Since the remote button is attached to the key and they leave the key in the ignition with the engine running while it goes through, you are basically left with a locked car in neutral, engine running, rolling out the end of the car wash.

This must happen often, because they had a block of wood to put in front of the tire to stop it.

The next step is to get someone from home to bring your extra key or to allow the car wash attendants to use a "slim jim" to pop the door lock, which in turn triggers the alarm!!!

Anyway, she learned to separate her remote from her key for the car wash, then unlock it as it exited the wash cycle...

:bawling:

that must be a different system or one thats not working right because my manual says that putting the key in the ignition disarms it whether it is in automatic or manual mode. so if thats true the doors will not lock themselves. of course the other possibility is that the person physically locked the door before getting out of the car....unfortunately the system cannot help in that situation.

Security System

Can someone please verify whether or not 2004 Accord EX V6 has the same security system as the option you buy for the LX. I really wanna prove my dealer wrong. It just does not seem like they would make two systems. Thanks

i could be completely wrong, but i think i read on another forum that the accessory add on version of the alarm is different from the one that comes stock on the ex's.... i think i read it on vtec.net. i'll see if i can find out for sure. ;)

i looked for a bit, but haven't found it yet.... ironically i did realize that one post i made on there awhile back was rated as "troll"!!! not sure why exactly! well, it was slightly "mean" post, but hey, that was the tone of the thread and yet i was the only one degraded on my post rating! :bawling:

yeah for driveaccord for letting us speak our minds without any "rating"! :D

ps-every other post over there by me is rated "normal" so i'm not a bad poster or anything, but it stilll bothers me that i was singled out in that thread!

im 99% sure the EX factory alarm is different from the accessory alarm.

the only automatic thing i've noticed is when you unlock, but do not open any doors, then it will lock itself in 20 seconds. other than that, i believe it will only arm when you lock the car.

I have the 04 EX 6,w/factory alarm and after my sale's person ran down to me the difference of the factory alarm and the
option alarm I had them install the alarm option as well.
All details are at home could post later if any1 needs it

This is the option alarm that the Honda dealer added on to my Accord 6Shooter w/Navi
Model PRO 9232a Puruit series (has these features activated)
starter disable when armed,,,,passive arming,,instant trigger,,
remote car starter,,remote window open,,remote window closure,,
key activated auto lock/unlock,,shock detector
vehicle horn(hope this didn't cost me extra),,,and hardware.
This system will inform me if an intrusion "attemp" has accurred while away from vehicle. If an intrusion attemp has accurred, the siren and or horn will beep 4times when the system is disarmed.
The vehicle's parking lights will also flash 3times to indicate an intrusion attemp has accurred...their is know extra alarm switch to carry, its all operated by using the key alarm that comes with the car.
Happy shopping

Honda's description:

Security Alarm System
NOTE: This applies to EX and EXL.

The security alarm system is armed automatically after the doors, hood, and trunk are closed and locked. For the system to arm, the ignition switch must be off, the key must be removed, and the MICU must receive signals that the doors, hood, trunk are closed and locked. The alarm can be disarmed at any time by unlocking the driver's door with the key or pressing the UNLOCK button on the remote transmitter.

When everything is closed and locked, the only inputs that are grounded, and have 0 volts, are the driver's door lock knob switch (LOCK position), and the integrated audio-HVAC display module. In other words, all of the other switches are open, and have about 5 volts with system awake and 1 volts in sleep mode, including the key cylinder switches. The security indicator in the gauge control module begins to flash immediately after the vehicle is completely closed and locked, and 15 seconds later, the security system arms and the security indicator flashes on for a shorter amount of time than before. If the security indicator does not flash, the system is not arming. A beep sounds and parking lights flash to confirm the security alarm system is armed if the LOCK button is pressed a second time within 5 seconds.

If one of the switches is misadjusted or shorted internally, or there is a short in the circuit, the security system will not arm. As long as the control unit continues to receive a ground signal (0 volts), it senses that the vehicle is not closed and locked, and the system will not arm. A switch that is slightly misadjusted can cause the alarm to sound for no apparent reason. In this case, a significant change in outside air temperature, the vibration of a passing truck, or someone bumping into the vehicle could cause the alarm to sound. There is no glass breakage or motion detector feature.

If anything is opened or improperly unlocked after the system is armed, the control unit receives a ground signal from that switch, and the 1-5 volts reference drops to 0 volts. If the integrated audio-HVAC display module is disconnected, the input loses its ground, and the input voltage goes to 1-5 volts. The system sounds the alarm when any of these occur:

A door or the trunk is forced open

A door is unlocked without using the key or the remote transmitter

The hood is opened

The audio-HVAC display module is disconnected

The remote panic is operated

When the system sounds the alarm, the horns sound and the exterior lights flash for 2 minutes. The alarm can be stopped at any time by unlocking the driver's door with the key or by pressing any button on the remote transmitter.

6 Shooter:

What dealer installed that extra addition to your system? I want to call them!

I would really like the passive alarm with the shock sensor and auto lock/unlock of the doors.

This is the option alarm that the Honda dealer added on to my Accord 6Shooter w/Navi
Model PRO 9232a Puruit series

Hey Billinaz,,the dealer is FairFax Honda 703-934-8500

oh and I'll like to add,,when windows are rolled up by pushing the unluck botton twice on the remote and holding it down on the second push rolls all 4 windows down
I really can't say if it was like this before or after installing the alarm
