Wife is due in March, now that we're actually looking into strollers and car seats, I'm getting a little worried about fitting everything. Since I can't turn back the clock and get an SUV, wondering if anyone has any real world experience, especially things that didn't fit (mostly car seats)?

Thanks!

Congratulations on your up coming event. Don't worry everything will be just fine. When my daughter was born in 1994 we had an Accord wagon which was much smaller than your car. The car seat fit perfectly in the back seat and the trunk has lots of room for a stroller since they fold up nicely and a big diaper bag. If you had a coupe, like the Prelude I had in 1994 then you would have a problem. Actually, we put everything in our 1981 Accord without any problem and it was even smaller than a present day Civic sedan. Soon we traded it in for the 94 Accord not because of space but because it had over 12,000 miles and I wanted my wife and kids in a new car for safety and reliability.

When we had two kids in 97 my wife got a Nissan Quest van which worked out better because it had captain chairs which separated them so they wouldn't kill each other. I kept the Accord wagon and had no problems with both kids in the back seat. Your Acvord sedan will work just fine. I would recommend that you get a washable cover for the back seat. It's easier to get rid of the vomit and poop smell with a washable drop cloth. :lmao:

The adventure is just beginning.

I can't tell you about what DOESN'T fit, but at the moment my rear seat area is taken up by two forward-facing car seats. The rearward-facing seats fit fine in my prior sedan (an '07 Elantra), so there should be no problem with them fitting in the Accord. By "fitting" I only really mean that the rear-facing seat leaves enough room for the seat ahead of it to still be occupied comfortably. Our rear-facing seats were/are Britax Marathons (now used facing forward). When you make your way up to forward-facing seats, it's pretty hard to imagine one that wouldn't fit in an Accord. Our other forward-facing seats are the Graco Nautilus.

First you're going to have an infant carrier, I presume. Just make sure that the base and any future car seats are properly installed... get some help at your local FD if you have any issues, or even as an extra pair of eyes to ensure you've gotten everything secured correctly. We used the Graco Snugride and had no problems with it in our other cars. All the seats mentioned are/were secured with the LATCH anchors between the seat bottoms and seatbacks, and the anchor in the rear deck when and where appropriate.

Another thing... you might want to consider some sort of seat cover. The OEM covers are nice but a little pricey. In the back of my Accord I just bought a generic one-piece seat cover, but as it's partially held in place by the two forward-facing seats, it's probably not going to work as well in your application. You might have to bite the bullet and drop the coin on the Honda covers if you want a good fit, but read the other threads first.

If you don't have any tint, you might want to consider that for the rear windows at the very least. Just enough to filter out the UV is sufficient, but I think you can also just get some slap-on UV film, or just some stick-on blinds, if you're not committed to a tint job.

I just got my 09 accord sedan last December because of our new baby. I traded in my 09 Civic Si coupe and figured the accord would be a good size. Everything fits perfect. With the car seat in the middle, two adults can still sit on the ends with no problem.

We have a large 3 wheels stroller that fits in the trunk fine. I'd say it takes about half the trunk space. But recently, me and my wife took our baby and two 9 year olds from Halifax to Montreal for a week and drove the whole way with stops in between. About an 800 mile trip. The big stroller, two kids suitcases and a very large duffel bag-type suitcase fit in the trunk along a couple random bags. The trunk was packed but it all fit without a hassle.

If you don't want to do the tint job there are window shade looking devices that suction cup onto the back windows that can be adjusted to keep the sun off the car seat and the kid.

One baby no problem unless you carry an insane amount of stuff. My sedan has also carried two babies a few times in rear facing car seats, along with two strollers and a play yard, all fit without too much problem. Three babies, forget it.

That's what I meant by "stick-on blinds", I just worded it badly. There are the kind that are just a single "sheet" with suction cups at the corners and there are the kind that roll down like a home window shade. The problem is with any of these that they do negatively affect your view out of the car and that they only cover a small area and may not be in the right position at any given time to keep sun off of the kid.

I have 2 car seat and space is bigger than my previous Murano..

I have rearview sunshade and passenger side tint like shade. Cargo is big too -- no problem really..

I would go to babiesRus and buy this thing called a seat protector. Had them in the mini van. Protected the seat from spills, vomit and just rubbing from the car seats. In my Camry (before the Accord) I did not have them and the seat had worn spots from the car seats rubbing on the seats. Plus it is easier to take out the seat protector and hose it off them to remove the seat cover and then putting it back on. Best thing to get when you have car seats. They cost about $15 a piece.

Hey, thanks for starting this thread, and congratulations!

Coincidence, my wife is also due in March with our first. We bought the Accord sedan a bit ahead of time, but hoping to start a family and hoping to need the space.

A good friend of mine has the 8th gen sedan. He has a newborn and a two year old, and everything fits just fine in his car. No problem.

With one kid I'm not expecting any space issues.

Any car seat/stroller recommendations you guys have??!

Thanks everyone! My biggest concern was some people mentioning that the rear facing seats wouldn't fit in their camry's and TSX's

I did plan to **** it up and buy the Honda backseat protector. But the rear window sunshade is something I hadn't thought of

I seem to be leaning towards the Britax b-agile stroller, and probably a Britax car seat also

I had a TSX before the Accord and NOTHING for in the back seat of that car with me driving (I'm 6'4). The Accord is so much roomier in the trunk and rear seats. I've been able to carry 5 adults and a trunk load of stuff with no issues vs. one rear passenger feeling confined in the TSX.

Congrats on the baby!

Congrats on the baby! Stockpile sleep now while you can. :paranoid:

My twin boys are a little over 2 months old now. The Accord hauls everything you'll need for daily use. It's easy to load and unload the babies out of the back seat and we don't have to adjust our seats to get them in. With over 15 cubic feet of trunk space, there's plenty of room for the twin stroller and other stuff as well back there. I think it makes a great baby hauler.

Our Graco stroller fits just fine. It does not leave a lot of room for other stuff but it fits.

No issues, my friend! I had a jeep before the accord and this has way more room. With rear facing seats you don't need vertical room... You need length and the accord has plenty of that in the rear seat. I have two seats back there now and it's great. My wife has a new odyssey EXL with a pair of recaro baby seats... Looks pimp. I just have a pair of even flos.

My kids love it when I merge into traffic rowing the gears. My 18 month old girl says, weeeeeeeee.

2 kids, 2 1/2 years and 6 1/2 months. I can fit a pack n play, a stroller, and all our gear for a week long trip in the trunk. It's an unbelievable size. One of my co-workers called it an optical illusion hahaha

Yep. 3 suit cases, pack n play, worlds biggest umbrella stroller, LLBean beach canopy, beach toys, camera and other misc crap in the brown bag for a week on the jersey shore. It also pulled down 36.6mpg on the trip down.
