2003 I4 sedan (as listed in sig)

How involved is changing the serpentine belt... never done this before... Any all help welcome

thanks in advance!

I haven't done it on this engine but many others. If I recall there is a diagram of the belt routing on the underside of the hood. I believe that the belt tensioner pulley should be replaced at the same time.

On previous cars it was easier with two people and a prybar for the belt tensioner pulley to remove/add tension to the belt. I won't go further since I haven't done it on a 2.4l and can't offer 1st hand advice.

Perhaps our Princess will know and can offer you some real help/diagrams.

Thanks... hoping this is something with a relatively easy learning curve.. I just can't stand paying to get a belt replaced!!

Is THIS the belt you're talking about????:dunno:

You are the woMAN!!! That's what he's looking for. Guess you don't have to bust the engine mount anymore. I'm gonna go look to verify. Seems way too easy now especially w/ that Snap-On tool.

That tool will make it easier but it's not a must. You can come up with something else that will give you the leverage you need.
Yeah.. I am thinking/hoping one of the guys in our prototype garage may have one I can use??

 Glad I was able to help....

Honda has used "drive belt" & "timing belt" to refer to the same part over the years. I'm sure it's just to confuse me!!:paranoid: So if a car has a "timing chain" I'd think what they call the "drive belt" is now the correct term for belt the makes the other stuff move....:dunno:

Sometimes to understand Honda's terms, you must be blonde!!:lmao:

Help!!!

Ok, I need info from peopl who have done this...

It looks like access to that tensioner and the entire area is very limited... it is seriously blocked by a motor mount...

My prototype garage does not have the tool and a breaker bar will not fit unless I disconnect the bolts to the motor mount.

Removing the bolts to the motor mount will also free up quite a bit of area to reinstall the belt..

I will be using a lift so that helps a bit..

My question: should I be leary of removing what appears to be the motor mounts to give me more access??

I mean even if I bought the suggested tool I would still have limited space to "snake the belt" through the maze...

Jason,

You may want to pm fredsvt since he may not see this thread. I'm sure he has done hundreds of them and he will get back to you quickly. Good luck!

Although my prince does NOT remove the mount, it won't hurt anything if you do.

thanks for the mount feedback.

Does the prince know what the torque spec in ft lbs is for those bolts?

Thanks as always!!!

Are you sure it's not your transmission?
