I'd like to install the smaller lip spoiler onto my V6 but I was looking at the collegehills website and it appears you have to drill into the sheet metal to attach it. Bummer, I was hoping it would just adhesive on there with some really strong adhesive. I definitely do not want to drill into my sheet metal. Like the look of the smaller spoiler though.

The 2016 accord touring has a lip spoiler installed from the factory.

Disclaimer: I don't have the spoiler in question, nor have installed one.

Reading the instructions, I think the clips (that you have to drill the holes for) are only for alignment. The spoiler is attached to the trunk lid with adhesive tapes.

You don't have to drill if you don't want to, just make sure to position the spoiler well before applying the tapes.

My apologies. I thought you said you had a coupe. Well, there's great info in this thread that'll be sure to assist you
The V6 Coupes don't have a trunklid lip spoiler standard either.

HDTouring, excellent point. I could just stick it on the decklid w/o drilling. That is food for thought. Thx.
Beware that if the spoiler is ever used to close the deck lid(seems very convenient for that)that just using double sided tape may not be up to the task.

The lip spoiler I bought came with a nice drill guide, drilled the two holes and never looked back. The simple lip spoiler looks right at home on the sedan and just adds that little something, kinda like those two dimples above a girls ass cheeks.....god I love that:wink

I had a 2011 sedan and I bought a lip spoiler off ebay and the paint matched perfect and I did not drill a single hole. The spoiler did not move for the three years it was on that car. I bought clear silicone and used that and the 3m tape that came pre installed. Just put a couple of blobs of silicone in the middle of the spoiler so it would contact both the trunk lid and spoiler but not enough that it would bleed onto the tape. It worked fantastic and I closed the trunk all the time using the spoiler.

I got mine from Amazon. Replaced the tape with real 3M and it hasn't move an inch.

You would never guess its not an OEM part. The paint matches my modern steel perfectly.

Good grief, mine has been has on my V6 now for over two years in all kinds of heat and rain and humidity. I installed it with two sided 3M tape. It when on solid as a rock and is still the same, it doesn't budge, and I've closed my trunk plenty of times pushing down on it. You'd virtually need a big screw driver or small crowbar to get it off, it's that solid.

Gee Wilikers,I guess being a Machinist/Fabricator by trade must have something to do with not being overwhelmed by drilling two tiny holes. There's no way in hell I'd just stick something on with double sided tape and be satisfied with the install,by all the recent posts I now see I'm in the minority.Oh well:dunno:

The holes you drill for the spoiler are just alignment holes and nothing to do with adhesion to the trunk. The only thing that actually adheres that factory spoiler to the trunk with the alignment holes is their factory two sided tape it comes with. Additionally, that factory two sided tape is very small in width, something like 1/4" or less if I remember. Also, the factory body side moldings and illuminated door sills by Honda are also just adhered by the same factory two sided tape and work just fine. Mine have been on the car also since purchase without any problems. I don't see where you need to drill holes just used for alignment unless you think you'll have trouble lining it up when the install. Those alignment pins do not have threads or nuts or anything to tighten it to the trunk.

Maybe so,but the spoiler I installed had threaded brass inserts installed in the spoiler and was attached using 2 1/4" fasteners from the back side of the deck lid. While this might not have been a O.E. Honda part the fit was unbelievably good even out at the ends where it followed the contour of the deck lid perfectly(and less than half the price).I was almost convinced that the manufacturer of this spoiler was the supplier for Honda since the fit was so good, but since this one does "bolt" to the deck lid I now know it's not.
Almost never does an aftermarket part fit as good as O.E. but this spoiler is definitely the exception to the rule, even the paint was a perfect match.
Finding out now that the O.E. spoiler is only held on with double sided tape I actually feel like I bought the right one when I purchased the knock off.:smile as I pat myself on the back.

I thought for sure someone would post "what if I want to remove it and now have to deal with the holes",I can't think of ONE reason this would be the case but I guess if one found a REALLY cool WRX spoiler on Craigslist that one wanted to jury rig it in its place.

I agree with the sill plates staying in place only using double sided tape because they lay horizontal and come in contact with nothing(my feet haven't even come in contact with them) there is little chance they will move from their position even without using any type of fastener.

Good talk,
OMR
