So what is the average mileage when the oil reminder gets to zero to do an oil change?
I never paid attention on how many miles or kms there is when it is time I just use the reminder and not mileage.

ok here's a good question..how about the time frame- I don't drive more than 8K a year so I figure every 9 months with Dino oil is about right...comments?

Mine hits 15% at right about 6k every time.

about 15% for me as well. My maintenance light came on JUST this morning, and ive probably driven about 6000 miles since my last change

full synthetic of course ;)

I always do about 6k-7k, but the stupid dealership always says that i should always wait until it says 5%.... that doesnt seem right does it?

also is it bad to put in 5quarts of oil when is ask for 4.4-4.5 quarts?

5% sounds right to me, the extra 5 % will save you not that much.

Considering if you do oil change every 6k, you will have to change oil about 20 times to reach 120k miles, and thats just 1 more extra oil change you have to do, if you change the oil at 5% versus 0%. I would change at 5% and thats what i have been doing.

Its always been around 7000miles with about 10% remaining on mine.

is the oil meter based on any sort sensor? Or is it merely a mileage/revolutions counter? I.E. if you are at 5%, and change the oil, but don't reset it, will it keep telling you to change the oil? Or does it know that it has been changed?

I don't wait for the light, I change my oil around 4000 miles.

I took mine in for the recall 11-049 software update, they had a $20.00 oil/filter change offer I said do it. I do my own oil changes ( I have the time) but for 20 bucks go for it. Car came back I checked the oil and it was 3/4'' over the full mark, they took it back in and this time it was 1/4'' over. I went home and removed the proper amount and replaced the crush washer that they didn't when removing some oil. This is why I like to do my own oil changes.

actually, it is a computer algorithm that takes into account the number of miles driven and the type of driving you do.

i went almost 9K miles on my 1st oil change and the computer said there was still 10% of the life left. i do mainly highway driving.

what does that percentage actually mean? that theres only 5% of the 4.5 quarts of oil thats poured in your engine??

More along the lines of the oil that you have in there is starting to "wear" aka its getting dirty/used. most of the 4-5 quarts you put in there will still be there (with the car burning oil sometimes and with some cars).

Last change i was at 6000miles and my MM said i had 40% life left, i ended up changing it anyway, was itching to switch to synthetic for a while.

not the smartest thing to do in the world by following the MM especially on like hondas where most of them burn oil ... but whatever floats your boat .. i change mine between 4-5k on Amsoil XL with K&N Oil Filter

I do mine between 7k - 7.5k. I'm at 6,855 and my MM says 35%. Most of my driving in highway.....some traffic, but most of the time I'm doing between 70-80mph. I'm running M1 EP with a M1 oil filter and over 7k miles, I burn less that a 1/4 quart. IMO, with these modern engines and normal driving habits, changing your oil and filter at under say 6-7k is just a wast of money. Changed the oil every 6k-6.5k in my old Accord (ran M1 after break-in period) and I never looked back. The guy that I sold the car to has continued to do the same and he's at around 225k now with no issues. He said that it burns under a 1/2 quart between oil changes.
