I'll begin with my gripe
I bought 2021 HAH Touring for $37K with 4k miles on it end of Mar'23 here in Seattle, WA. Do you believe, almost MSRP for a used car. My situation forced me and I take full responsibility for this either good/bad deal.

being a new hybrid,my first, car owner planned for a 4-day road trip through some 100miles strecth of highway without access to services. then realized the car comes with only the tire repair kit and lack of spare tire kit. watched several youtube videos of this issue and their solution like ebay, amazon and master spare to buy spare tire kit. but none gave the confidence.

called few local dealers for quote of the complete spare tire kit, few quoted between $600 and $721. asked the dealership to email quotes. some dealership asked for VIN and refused to even check the parts as mine is hybrid and few warned they don't take responsibility if parts doesn't fit(as few warned in some posts)

when googling, stumbled upon this discussion thread and posts from here helped me confirm the parts list I received from the quotes and the confidence to make the call to buy it.

online vendors quotes where in the range of $155(without tire and foam tool box) and $377 including all, shipping charge was $100 and $255 respectively.

when searching for parts on a local dealership website, found a link to honda's direct parts order website - dreamshop. total came to $484($440+ $44 tax). Ordered just now. I chose the same dealer who gave $721 quote when asked over phone. Let me see if they deliver it without any hassle or extra cost.

Edit: I used 2021 Accord 2.0T Touring to build the parts order in the dreamshop website

thank you all for sharing your experience and precisely listings the parts number and price paid.

this is my order(waiting for the dealer to call for pickup)

Update: the quote got declined by the dealer and dreamshop order was not processed. I will go and get the quote and parts from different local dealers again and settle

The car has a huge trunk, plenty of room to put a donut up towards the rear seats.

Had a 2013 Miata with no spare. Have not had a flat on the road in eons. Only flats I've had have been generally on the right rear tire and just needed to be aired up and driven to tire place.

I was planning to put together a donut spare kit based on the parts list here, but fate threw me a curveball and now I have 4 brand new tires and a full size spare with a 6 month old tire on it in my trunk. This may be a silly question, but is that a spare tire cover you have on yours? I'm looking at spare covers on Amazon and can't decide which one to get. I have a Weathertech liner in my trunk, but I'd like to keep other things from touching the tired and getting dirty.

Full size spare, 4 folding chairs (because I live in Southern Louisiana and there is always some cookout or event going on somewhere) and still plenty of room for groceries or wherever.

The actual navigation may be good, but the voice response UI is horrible, I can almost never get it to find my destination, so I have to pull over so I can type it in... and the traffic reports are not good - the Honda Nav system almost never knows about a traffic slowdown the Google Maps knows about.
The voice response UI is great for one thing: raising blood pressure and anger at Garmin. Absolute trash.

I went with Modern Spare for my 2021 that I bought in October 2023. It wasn't cheap but it seemed easier than trying to put all the pieces together individually. The only thing that surprised me was the wheel had 10 holes in it so I guess it would work with something other than an Accord with a different hole pattern. I'm hoping never to have to use it.

Older thread AND I've already commented in it when I first got my 2019 HAH from a friends estate.

Didn't worry too much about a spare until I had an anchor bolt puncture my six month old new rear tire (all four were new). So I'm nervous now as I drive quite far from home every day.

Question.... if I get a spare, can that spare be an EXACT tire that I'm already using or does it have to be one of those donut spares?

Ideally, I'd like to find a new rim to match what I have.... I blow a tire like what happened two weeks ago, I swap out for spare and keep going.

Perfect solution: I get an identical rim and identical tire that I already have and stuff it into trunk (would that fit in wheel well?)
Acceptable solution: use a donut if it's the only choice

Not wanting to buy/carry a floor jack, would you go to the dealer to get the jack or online somewhere?

This bolt was probably near 1/2" diameter and four inches long. I was stunned when we pulled it out. Had I been in the outreaches of where I drive, I would have been very SOL.

Understood - ie the difficulty in weighing the options here. Silly that we even have to talk about it - Honda should have included a spare!

That said - there are lots of options here (and in other threads) and it’s subjective as to what the best approach is. But FWIW I went with the Modern Spare tire solution and haven’t looked back. Everything you need is included in their kit. IMHO - Peace of mind and knowing I have a spare that I 100% know will work is worth every penny it costs. It fits perfectly in the car and in the trunk well.

Good to know. I was ready to order one when I stumbled on a rim, identical to what I have. So, my question would be, if I bought an EXACT replica of what I have, rim & tire.... (it would be the spare) would it fit inside the hole made for the spare or, to fit there, would it have to be a donut type spare?

I've ALWAYS had a full sized tire for a spare. I've never in my life had a donut. Call me old fashioned but for the driving I do, I'd feel better knowing I've got a full tire ready than a donut which WILL hobble me home, but if I get home at 7:00 PM and have to leave again at 5:30 A.M., I don't always have time to go by tire shop so a full tire might slow me down less. (if that makes sense)

Your question is: if you put a full-sized wheel in the trunk, will it fit in the spare tire well?

I am guessing here - sorry - but I believe it will fit diameter-wise but it will be a few inches too thick. So you would need to have a raised trunk floor above the spare, however you want to do that. The "donut" is close to the same diameter as a full-sized wheel, but much narrower.

All the information I've seen to date shows that the 2018 Accord Hybrid will come with a Tire Repair Kit instead of the compact spare that's standard in the conventional versions. I assume Honda eliminated the spare tire to reduce weight and thus perhaps eke out another 0.001 MPG. I get an average of probably two flat tires per year, mainly from nails and screws that litter the streets where I live, and for that reason I've never considered buying a car that doesn't have some kind of spare tire. I just don't trust repair kits. But I like everything else that I've learned about the '18 Hybrid so much that it almost overrides my strong objection to its apparent lack of a spare. Does anyone know if the Hybrid has the same well under the trunk floor as the conventional Accords, in which a spare tire COULD be carried if purchased separately? Thanks.
