CAR: 2015 Accord Sport 4cyl/4door with 116,000KM

No issue with how the car runs so this is preventative maintenance. Which spark plugs are best for this car, how often should they be replaced, do they need to be gapped?

Manual asks to wait for maintenance reminder but i am not sure if it has been reset by previous mechanic when doing oil changes.

Sorry for noob question, could not find this info on the site. Thanks.

NGK or Denso are the OEM plugs. Stick with these and you'll have no problems. NGK #DILKAR7H11GS or Denso #DXE22HQRD11S . Prescribed replacement is at 100,000 miles. And gap adjustment is not recommended as it is very easy to destroy the plug tips. I personally do check and adjust the gap , but I've done hundreds of precious metal spark plugs. Gap is 0.044 inch.

Unless you dropped them, no need to gap them...they'll be pre-gapped from the factory.
Iridium plugs can go 100K miles or further.

I spoke to the dealer and they quoted $124.36 ($31.09/EA Canadian before taxes) for all four plugs which is very comparable to what I find aftermarket. They stock NGK 12290-5A2-A02 (their part number)

Since I am at 116,00KM (72,080 Mi) would you recommend I wait another year to replace them?

Thanks for the replies...

Manual says to do it when the electronic maintenance reminder appears. It does not say anything else like time or mileage. I am just not sure if my reminder has gone off and was reset by my mechanic sometime in the past.

If you can buy your spark plugs through RockAuto they are between $13 and $14 a piece (US).

Spark plugs are typically done on Hondas at 105k.

My maintenance minder asked for spark plugs at ~158,000 km.
116,000 km sounds a bit too early to me...

I wouldn't, you're a bit early at 72,000 miles. I changed mine at 100,000 miles, and from the looks of them, they could have gone a lot more.

I dont think there is a time interval for spark plugs, I guess every 10 to 15 years if you dont put any milage on the car but I don't think they "expire" like tires do after about 7 years or so

I had a interesting experience with spark plugs for 9g Accord, as well as my friends 9g. My car is '14 Sport with about 53k miles on it, my friends a '16 Sport w/ 85k. My friend noticed occasional rough idling, so naturally I suggest changing the plugs. We put together an order for RockAuto, and ordered NGK 'Iridium IX' LKAR7BIX-11S spark plugs. My '14 had about 50k at the time, his car about 80k. Rough idle on the '16 was solved, I changed mine on my '14 due to age more so than miles. My original plugs were quite rusty around the base, and I noted that cylinder 4 there was some oil residue in the spark plug tube.
One thing we did notice is BOTH our cars had longer cranking times first thing in the AM. As example, my car was always crank-crank-FIRE every time leading up to changing the plugs. With the LKAR7BIX-11S, my was crank-crank-crank-crank-crank-crank-FIRE on two occasions in cold mornings. My friend reported the same thing happening with his '16 after I brought it up earlier this week. I also noticed my fuel economy was about 1-2mpg lower than usual. I just changed my plugs to Denso IXEH22TT yesterday, which is the best/closest plugs I could get at AutoZone. I wanted NGK Laser-Iridium DILKAR7H11GS, but they were out of stock. They did have NGK Ruthenium LKAR7AHXS, but I'm unfamiliar with those type of plugs at this point.

Laser Iridium is the OE plugs (Denso is also listed as an alternate option), not the Iridium IX, so I'm not too surprised to hear this. Ruthenium plugs are technically supposed to last even longer, and I've seen people use it without issues.
