Hello, all! My son had the genius idea to replace his steering wheel in his 2013 Honda Accord with an aftermarket one. He didn't get too far, but far enough to remove the srs airbag from the wheel, and in doing so cut the wire to one of the connectors (rather than simply removing the connector!). I'm trying to put it all back. The only part I'm having a tough time with is the connector that has a red wire in it. The connector is surrounded by foam. I seem to be able to find other connectors to repair the wiring harness, but not this specific one. There's not enough wire left on the connector to splice to. Any thoughts as to what a part number is or source for this connector?

Thank you!

Is this on the steering wheel side or the column side?

Are you able to provide more pictures?
In theory this should not be air bag related wiring as those are usually yellow. I am guessing this is related to the steering wheel buttons. Carefully peel the foam away from the connector, this will expose it's shape and possibly of extraction of the crimped connector pin out of it.

Cepega, I think you're a genius! I peeled the foam away and have attached photos. I've also attached photos of where the wire comes from, and where it attaches to the srs device makes me think it's NOT part of SRS. Lemme know what you think.

Thanks!

That last picture has the juvenile in me cracking up.

Do a fairly close up, but overall picture of the steering wheel area.

Oh and before any manipulations with the airbag and it's system, did you disconnect the battery ?

When I swapped my sedan steering wheel for the coupe steering wheel (on my 8th gen), the only connector with only a single wire running to it is the horn.

Is that the airbag wires also cut on that last picture?

Oh snap, you're right, it does looks to be chopped right at the connector end while it is still plugged in.

Like @Cepega said, if we could see less zoomed in pictures, we can help to assess the overall situation a bit more. There's quite a bit of things here that is very concerning and can cost you a lot of money to fix.

Personally, I'd like to see a picture covering the entire steering wheel. And another picture covering the entire back of the airbag.

Yes, that connector’s chopped, but I found a replacement online for that one and ordered.
I’m not sure that the geniuses that decided his Honda needed a racing steering wheel disconnected the battery first.

additional photos attached!

Okay, I'm even more sure that that one connection you showed is for the horn.

Did you order a new connector or a whole steering wheel harness? Because I would not want just a new connector. If your insurance company finds out that you had to "splice" the SRS wiring and (god forbids) the airbag ever fails to deploy regardless of reasons, they may deny your coverage, or worse.

Since you have two connectors that got cut, I would just spring for a new steering wheel harness. It's probably expensive, but less likely have things go wrong or land you in legal trouble.

Hold on, I'm slightly mistaken on the previous post. The SRS connector is part of the clockspring, the horn connector part of the steering wheel harness.

Sport 4-Door

I can't tell from the diagrams if I need the Reel Assembly Cable (Honda Part No.: 77900-T5R-A22 Reel Assembly, Cable) or the sub-assembly cable 77901-T2A-Y11 to replace the components needed to fix the broken connector. I have a connector ordered, but as you mentioned, it may not be worth the liability to simply splice in a new connector. I guess it depends on the cost of using the complete part vs. adding a freaking connector and soldering/shrink wrapping two wires.

As you mentioned, the horn is a different harness. I'd be far less concerned about liability in replacing the horn connector, but that's the one I can't actually find. And I can't seem to determine from those parts diagrams what part I have to replace to get the horn connector. Does anyone here have an idea of which one it is?

Thank you!

De-pin (remove the pins and what's left of the wires in the connector. Find the same pins and connect those to the ends of the harness then insert the pins into the connector and plug back in.

If the battery was not disconnected prior to unplugging/cutting air bag wires then the airbag light will be on and you will need a scanner to turn it off.
