I thought the point of using a forum was to engage with the people on a case by case basis in real time and have an ongoing conversation with them. If not, then why use forums? Shouldn't I just use google instead then if you're saying to search?

I come to forums to get the direct info, to "cut the fat" so to speak, and get right down to it and have conversations with people who either have done or will do the conversion soon like me.

Thanks :)
People are becoming hostile...I feel like if I do not search for something, I will be gunned down.

Yesh, I agree. And the search had a bunch of old threads that were related to sedans or OEM keys and not exactly what I was referring to...

At any rate, thanks to everyone who contributed :)

The thread I provided a link to in post #11 is from Feb/Mar of this year, relates to both sedan and coupe keys, and covers EXACTLY what you were referring to.

Not hostile at all. Many of us get tired of seeing the same questions asked over and over and over and over, when if you used the search button, you can answer the question.

Society is partly to blame. Let someone else do all the work for you so you don't have to do any.

The is good info out there. I opened a few threads about it. . I got mine done for about $15 total. 3 Dealership cut me 3 keys for free.

The risk you pose is losing one of the screws... or if the spring jumps at ya while you're in the passenger seat of your GF's Civic and you can't find it ANYWHERE no matter how hard you look and the eBay seller from china starts giving you a hard time for losing the spring and refuse to ship you a spring because that would ruin another switchblade key unit and insists to check out the spring but the spring is lost but he does't understand cause he's from china and offers to ship a new unit but you don't need a new unit, you need a SPRING because the original one is lost somewhere in the bowels of your GF's civic (seriously where the %$@# did it go) so you give up on eBay cause it'll take another 4 weeks til anything arrives anyway and go to your local sears hardware on a friday night to hopefully find a spring.. which you do for 50c but its a bit too long so you find a cutter and try to bend the end to fit in the switchblade key which works ok to open but doesn't close that well so you give up on your little DYI pet project and decided to go online and order another one, but the blades are from china and it taks 4-6 weeks to get and you're tired of waiting so you order a couple more from two DIFFERENT sellers because hey its only $10-$15 and maybe one of them will arrive shortly and then you finally get 2 awesome switchblade keys on the mail and take them to the dealerships AGAIN because the previous one you cut doesn't match the housing of new ones and when you ask for them to cut it they give you that blank stare that they don't believe that would work and they've never heard of such a thing but then you show it to them and in your mind you're like here you go PUNK! and then you're finally got the switchblade keys and you show it to your GF because you're so proud you got it done despite her Civic DEVOURING EVERYTHING and she looks at you and says that's nice but i don't really care for a switchblade key and besides.. why do you have 2 of them.. and didn't you get one already.. like 2 months ago!? AAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

So, yeah... this forum has some good switchblade threads.

Ahemm...did this a couple time

Okay...best way to go is go to your honda dealer....they charge 15$ for the key to be cut. the ebay item you have is just a shell. so you dont need to program it just switch the transponder from one key to that one...save you 45$ for programming or what not. when the honda tech ask you u need to program it or buy a transponder just say no thanks i just need the key cut. and your set.

The only part I am worried about is changing over the transponder from the OEM Key to the Shell key. Have you made this change yet? Was it difficult to make the switch? I also read that someone could not start his car because the positioning of the transponder chip was too far from the ignition. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

*edit*

Called my dealer, one said "We won't do it if it's not a Honda key bla bla bla" and the other said, "Sure, bring it on in, $15."

So $15 + $13.50 if it works...*crosses fingers*

Have you read ANY of the threads concerning these shells?

There are multiple posts with descriptions of how to swap the transponder, including this detailed How-To from the DA member you credited with sparking your curiosity in your original post.

It's one of the cheapest, easiest mods you could do and involves turning a couple of screws.

I have three of the eBay switchblade shells.
I had all 3 keys cut at no charge at my local Honda dealer.
I've had them since February.
I've had zero issues with them.

Highlanduh, I have read about 3 threads or more but some of them show the chip/transponder as being able to come out of the Honda OEM key and another that showed you had to clamp and pry and use a lighter to get the chip/transponder out, that was my main concern. :)

Best way to know: Open your key up and look at it. I know the 09+ have their transponder soldered onto the board. Not sure about the 2008, where it might be a separate chip like the 7th gens.

Inside the OEM key should be a little cartridge for every 8th gen.
That cartridge is simply transferred from the OEM key to the flip shell.

I have and '08 sedan, Jullia has an '09 coupe, and phamman has an '11 coupe.
All are the same.

JMoneyLX-S, the pics in the links above show how easy the swap is.
If I remember correctly, the OEM key has one screw and the shell has 3 of them.

This is the part I am worried about. But then Julia has an 09' coupe..Weird...Maybe it was the sedans that are soldered onto the board then?
