I have a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L (Auto) 4 cylinder with about 95,500 km. I bought the car used in August 2012 with about 93,000 km. The vehicle has the Honda Certified extended warranted for 6 years or 120,000km - which covers power train. I had a remote starter installed at Future Shop a couple of months ago, and all has been well.

Was on my way back to work after lunch and everything was fine. When I got into work and started to back my car in to a parking spot I noticed the "D" light was blinking on the dash. I put the car in Neutral, then Drive, and then Reverse again but no change. So I went ahead and parked the car and the "D" was still flashing.

I turned the car off and on again, and the "D" wasn't blinking anymore. All appeared normal on the dash. The only thing that I can remember happening before the "D" started blinking was driving in a puddle in the parking lot before I started backing the car in.

I've made an appointment at the dealership for tomorrow morning to diagnose the problem. While reading on this (and other) forums, I found that there are a number of possible causes:

1. Old fluid - which I admit I haven't replaced as the MM hasn't come on yet since I bought the car (it is at 60%).
2. Bad Pressure switches. Not sure if this applies to the V4, but have read a lot of occurrences with the V6 engines.
3. Wheel hub sensor.
4. Bad transmission

Does anyone know of any other ideas as to what may cause the problem? Or differing experience?

This was driving me a bit crazy so I went outside to check the transmission oil dip stick. The oil was below the low line, so I guess it needs some transmission oil. But what I am wondering is was the transmission oil that low when I bought the vehicle? Or, was it at a normal range and has been leaking gradually?

I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I think I'll also get them to do a drain and fill while it's there, since I don't know when the transmission fluid was last done on this vehicle.

But again, I would've thought buying from a Honda dealer would've meant they would have checked it.

Could you take it in to an Autozone or similar and get a free OBDII read of the ecu codes? Chances are a code is being stored and you could perhaps save yourself the trouble of going to the dealer.

Just FYI, this happened to my car as well. 2008 v6 accord EX.

When it happened to me, the "D" light was flashing, the speedometer wasn't working, and the car wouldn't shift out of 1st/2nd gears. Check engine lights were flashing too. I happened to get a bunch of videos of it so pm me if you want to compare what happened.

Turns out it was a faulty sensor on the engine side of the torque converter (faulty input shaft sensor). I figured it had to do with a faulty sensor because before this, the tach would fluctuate whenever I would drive in 5th/OD gear at around 25 mph.

Just thought i'd chime in because this caused me endless grief for awhile.

How did you find this out I’m having same problems worth the same car

FYI not all OBD2 scanners can read transmission codes. You need a scanner that can read transmission codes. If the D was flashing, it means there's a transmission code in there. If it stopped flashing, the code will be stored as a history code for some amount of time (unless the problem didn't recur for a while, at which point I believe the code will eventually self clear).

The D is flashing on my 2007 Honda Odyssey Van and I don't know why. The check engine light is on and It will not get about 15 miles an hour if I try to put it in drive and drive it. I had so many problems then this happened. I would love any suggestions for this problem. Thanks

As post #6 right above yours says - "If the D was flashing, it means there's a transmission code in there. "

If the check engine light is on then an OBDII code is active - usually from the engine.

So, read the codes with a scanner. Virtually all scanners read OBDII codes, not all of them (but most) read TCM codes. If you don't have a scanner you can go to an auto parts store - most of them will do it for free but most of them have scanners that only read OBDII codes.

Then check the DTC's you find in the service manual. If you didn't get a transmission related DTC from the scan then you know you need to use a different scanner that will read the TCM DTC. As post #6 mentioned, it will stay in the history for a while.

Hey, I’m facing the exact same issue with my Honda Accord 2008 2.4DOHC i-VTEC. When the automatic transmission shifts from 1st gear to 2nd the D light starts flashing. When i turn the car off and turn it back on everything seems normal. Then again when i accelerate suddenly at a curve or somewhere where the gear shift from 1st to 2nd has to happen quickly the D light starts flashing again. But the car runs smoothly facing no issues even when D light keeps flashing. But i restart the car as soon as possible just to be safe. Could someone please suggest me what to do. Thank you.

Read the thread.

We can't magically know (or assume) what the problem is. Flashing D doesn't mean one thing is wrong, it could be a variety of things (usually something with your transmission.).

Read the thread, where it says "go get your car scanned so you can figure out what the problem is so that you can fix the problem cause you can't fix a problem if you don't know what the problem is".

Google is also your friend. Any questions about scanners have been answered on there 100,000 times already.

Bro, relax.
Take up your frustration elsewhere. I was looking for someone who might have faced the same kind of problem that im facing to get to know more about it. If you don’t know anything about it then keep your hands still. First of all learn some manners on how to talk to someone you haven’t even met before. Also try meditating so that people who live with you don’t have to bare with your illiterate and mannerless attitude. Have a nice day.

Nobody can possibly guess what’s wrong with your car if they don’t know.

the flashing D does not mean one thing. It can mean several things.

you need to have your car diagnosed so that you can find the problem. Then you come back here and search for how to fix that problem.

if the flashing D simply meant “your transmission fluid is low.” We’d tell you.

it’s like a check engine light, there’s a myriad of reasons it can be going off, you can’t assume somebody else’s problem is the same one you have, without first simply reading the codes your car has provided for you specific to your problem.

OK, so I'm facing the same problem with my 2012 Accord EX 4 Cylinder. D light flashes after the engine reaches normal running temperature, but nothing happens after that. The car drives and runs fine like always. I have read that it could be a bad solenoid, but there's no check engine light, nor can the OBD scanners can find anything. I need some help if anyone knows what it can be exactly.

Ever had the transmission fluid changed ? Is the fluid level OK ?
