I have had my 2013 EX-L for just over a month now and have a couple of gripes.

First, when I turn the front and rear window defrosters on in the AM, my heater thumps like a bass drum. It sounds like a go-kart engine idling. :thumbsdow

Next, my poor Nav unit. If I am making a call and hang up, the screen freezes for 10 minutes or until I restart the car. The best part is on occasion my phone will redial into the Handsfree link 5 or 6 times or more. Drives me nuts:dunno:

My last gripe is my in town mileage. I know, I have not had my car that long but 22mpg to 23mpg in town is disappointing as all hell. I will keep my eye on this one as my mileage increases. :notworthy

For my other two issues, my Accord is headed in for a Service visit.

FWIW I get 19 MPG on my 4 mile drive to work and 23 if I make all 4 green lights. I have gotten 40.5 over 340 miles to Niagra Falls.

Forget city MPG. All do poorly because sitting at a light you are getting 0 MPG. It's like expecting a grade of A+ and an F to average out to a B+.

Recent C& D tests of the C Max hybrid rated at 47/47 got a combined 36 even with stop start.

I have no clue how the EPA rates city figures. The Altima I test drove before i bought the accord showed an average MPG of 19 on it's trip computer from previous testers. It had improved to 22 after I drove it on the freeway.

Kings, this sound right in line with my experience.

EPA measurements are done on a warmed up engine. With a cold engine, you're lucky to get 1/2 the EPA ratings for city or highway. I get much better mileage on my trip home than my trip to work since it's been sitting in warmer temps all day. compared to frigid cold all night.

Car sales people and service guys don't mind idling the car for 15+ minutes while they show you the features of the car/ diagnose the vehicles. The 19mpg on the Altima probably accounts for that.

Treihing, I'd call up Honda and schedule an appointment to get the new software update as it may fix the problems you are having with the Nav. As far as the mileage goes; don't feel bad as I am averaging about 16 around town with the V6.

Same here, about 16mpg, driving around NYC!

Mine was showing about 25 mpg since purchase for only city driving, but I haven't looked since visiting the bank's drive-thru teller. With the slow service at Wells Fargo Bank, I expect it may have dropped significantly. I'm sure EPA doesn't take this one into consideration.

The "clunking" is the AC compressor engaging. All Honda's that I owned clunk when the AC compressor kicks on, especially for the first time when I turn the car on.

To stop the 'clunking' toggle the AC button so the screen says AC off.

The days I wake up with a lead foot I get 22 mpg and less if on sport mode

SSMV6,

About 4 or 5 years ago EPA changed the way they rung fuel enonomy testing from the way they used to. The new test consists of 5 separate tests (not eqully weighed), where one of the tests is run with the engine cold. There is also a part of the test where they actually turn the AC on.
I don't have the specifics of the EPA test at my finger tips, but I have a spreadsheet copy at work.

I got 20 mpg on my last fill up in NYC only because I drove to the casino one night and broke up my drive...normally 15-16. Don't feel bad about the gas.

The nav there's an update. The heat bang, I've never heard if that, keep us updated.

I was getting @ 22-23 my first month also. I'm on month 3 now and getting 25-26 MPG. All in town with eco on full-time. My CRV 4-banger struggles to get 21 (27 on highway). So if I am getting close to the CRV highway MPG driving in town with my v6...I'm not complaining too much. I may try my next tank of gas with eco off to see what the trade-off is.

As for the other issues, as other posters have mentioned, if you have the touch screen and nav, you should be on the list for the software update.
