I've heard some Honda's are going to timing chains. Are the new Accord V6's chain or belt driven?

thanks...
Honda's with chains are all K24 4Cylinders that are in 2003-2008 Honda Accords, and the V6's all still have belts.

The V6's need belt replacements every 7 years or 105k miles.

The 2.4L 4Cylinder in the Accord has a chain designed to last the life of the engine, and it is self adjusting.

I would add that all honda K Series have chains. I heard something along the lines of K Series is a new design so it got the chain. The V6 is still the old J design.

I guess I shouldn't have said K24. As what you said is what I meant.

Confused

I'm confused a little bit.:dunno:All 03-08 accords with the 2.4 engine have a time chain and not a belt right? I ask because my 04 sedan has 67K on it now and I was prepairing to budget getiting the belt changed as well as looking into the cost of parts to replace it myself. (have had a great deal of mechanical experience but very little in the Honda's) Several web searches has yeilded posting for a replacement belt (Gates) for the 4cyl 04 accord as well as idler pulleys. I just want to be proactive as I've seen the distruction a broken belt can do to the valve train in an intererience engine of which I'm assuming the 2.4 is.

I look forward to any and all replies.

I have a feeling you are mistaking the timing belt and the serpentine belt... the "S" belt is supposed to be changed at 90 to 105K miles along with the water pump.. the S belt is what loops the Alternator, Powersteering pump, the main pulley and If im not mistaken, the A/C Pulley If that belt goes and you dont catch it immediately. You could over heat the engine Blow the head gasket end up with water in the head and blow the motor... It happened on my 94 coupe in 2001... Anyone chime in please if I am Passing incorrect info... Id rather try to help, be wrong, and stand corrected, than pass on info and screw someone else up as well... :)

I don't think the A/C will cause overheating. I actually cut mine off my 95 Civic when the compressor clutch failed. It my friend still has the car without the belt. Just no A/C

There is certainly no timing belt on any 4cyl Accord from 2003-2008.

I'd just replace the drive belts, but not until 105k miles which is the first scheduled tune up.

K motors are all chain driven. You still have the belt that runs the accessories and you need to change that, but that is a much easier and cheaper job.

His '95 Civic had two accessory belts. Older D series motors which I think were last produced in 2005 had one belt for the A/C, and one driving the alternator and water pump.

Newer K series replaced the D, and those have serpentine belts. One belt drives all accessories.

What about the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid. Does that have a chain or belt?
