I have a 2011 Accord EX i4 5MT with 138k miles and the other night my TPMS light came on. its not the one that comes on for incorrect tire pressure, but the one that spells out tpms, which i think means there is something wrong in the system. this turned on after i used cruise control for the first time in a while (this easily couldve been a coincidence). also i just got new wheels from someone with winter tires on them but the tpms was fine. i think this might mean that one of the tpms batteries in the wheels have died. how do i find out which wheel it is specifically without having to take off all of the wheels and tires and replacing all the batteries. these are only my winter wheels anyways so i have another set of wheels with working tpms handy if that helps.

^^ Agree about Discount Tire. These guys told me that the TPMS sensors are battery powered. I've had to change two.

On my 2011 accord ex 2.4 5mt i have the tpms light on (not the low tire pressure) and i went to town fair tire and they scanned the tires and they said al if the sensors were working but when they plugged into the OBDII port it said it was failed and it couldn’t access the ECU. idk what happened!! any ideas?

8th gen TPMS sensors are battery operated individually. A good tire store like Discount Tires can change them all

OP if you changed the wheels and the TPMS light came on then it's because you did not program the new wheel sensors to the car number one. And or number two, those sensor(s) are bad. It has nothing to do with the ECU. The car has a separate module that communicates with the tpms sensors and then it talks to the ecu.

Every season when I changed my wheels the TPMS would go off in about 50 miles of driving. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY.

You need to either buy the tool to program them yourself like I did or go to a shop and have them program the new ones to your car.

There is also the possibility the sensors are good and they cannot be programmed to the car as they need to be 315Mhz sensors.

Our cars DO NOT have auto recognition for sensor IDs like my brothers 20008 acura TLS has and therefore every time you change a wheel with another sensor the ID needs to be written into the ecu.

You can also clone the ECU IDs so both wheel sets share the same IDs and THEN you could swap the wheels and not have any issues provided the batteries in the sensors are still ok.

Thanks for the info. I had my car in the Dealership for a recall issue. The TMPS light is also on my '10 Accord EX-L Sedan V-6. Honda said they couldn't find anything wrong with my tires. They wanted to sell me new tires for $1K. Although, the current tires are new. I will bring the car to America's Tire/Discount Tire or Les Schwab Tire Center.

It is rare that the TPMS module fails, in almost every case you have a bad sensor. If you do not own a tool that communicates with the TPMS system and the tire sensors take it to a tire shop and they will be able to tell you what's happening and fix it.

I have an Autel TS-508 and it has saved me money on the older direct TPMS systems.
