Hey Everyone :) I have a 2000 Sedan 4cyl 5 speed LX. We have had the car since about 120,000 miles and it currently has about 256,000 miles. We have never changed the transmission fluid as far as I know. Bad I know. I was going to change it myself, I had read up and it didn't seem too hard, however it was going to the shop to have the snow tires put on and a couple other little things done so I figured I'd let them do it. They told me that the fluid looked clean and good? and that they didn't recommend doing the change. This doesn't seem possible to me so i'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Definitely change it. The shop does not know what they are talking about. Many many people do not realize the complexity of the transmission problems with 6th Gen Accords. Color them ignorant I guess.

Definitely change it.

You never said it was an MT!!!

The OP did say it was a 5 speed so it has to be a manual. The manual trans does not have a dip stick so it's difficult to refill correctly unless its sitting level, like on a lift. Having a shop do it would be simplest. Honda MTF seems to work very well in these 5 speeds.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough about it being a manual. I found a thread on changing the manual fluid and as long as I get a long hose and funnel it shouldn't be too hard to refill. Wish me luck :D

Owned! LOL.

I swear I'm dyslexic. This happens to me all the time.

i changed mine recently, and even though the fluid still looked good, i didn't know what fluid the previous owner had put in or when they had had it changed last during their 220k miles of use.

I used the "new" MTF (which isn't that new anymore), and it shifts like butter now compared to how it shifted previously (and previously I would have never said it shifted bad, just WAAAY smoother now).

It is a pain in the butt though.
Huh?

Jack up the car.
Remove the passenger wheel.
Loosen fill bolt.
Remove drain bolt.
Remove fill bolt.
When tranny fluid is done draining, replace drain bolt and refill the tranny.
Replace fill bolt.
Put the passenger side wheel back on.
Lower the car back to the ground.

Well it's not the worst thing i've ever done but both bolts were wicked hard to start and getting the fluid back in is somewhat of a trick. I wouldn't want to do it more often than it calls for though.
