Hey guys new to the forum and just wanted to ask if anyone has any sound advice on changing transmission fluid. I bought my 2013 accord with 46,000 miles on it and immediately changed the oil and put 4 new quarts of transmission fluid of the OEM from Honda dealership. Ive put about 4500 miles on it and am wanting to drain and fill again... My question is id like my transmission to last as long as possible and know there's some debate as to which transmission fluid to use. I've heard amsoil makes a good transmission fluid even better than Honda. If I decide to switch over can I just drain the 4 quarts and add the amsoil and not worry about mixing the two until I drain and fill in another 5-10,000 miles. Any advice is appreciated thanks guys.

That is the only safe way to do it. Amsoil will mix safely with all transmission fluids they state. I just did a d/f with Amsoil on my CVT which gave me half Amsoil & half Honda fluid, so I have a semi-syn. now. You may want to check your brake fluid to see if it needs changing.

I'm assuming you have a 4 cyl w/ CVT (?)
I have a '14 Accord w/ the CVT. I did one drain/fill of Amsoil CVT ~5k miles or so ago. Pretty happy with it, smoother operation. You should have no problem blending the fluids.

FYI: For my CVT when I've changed the fluid its capacity is closer to 3.5-3.7 quarts. I'd pull the fill level bolt out just to make sure you aren't overfilled.

Edit: Just run OEM fluid. Amsoil caused my CVT to slip.

Awesome thank you

Yes I have the same transmission in mine. I've already drained and filled with Hondas brand I've just read amsoil is a good brand and helps with the transmission so I was wanting to switch I ended up pouring all four quarts in and just draining the excess like you said till there was a slight drip. Thanks again. I'm hoping to keep this car in great shape it's my first big purchase with a car and it was basically new when I got it so I want to keep her running for years that's why I'm asking people who have had experience with upgrading the trans fluid.

I've been a long-time AmSOil ATF user, but was wondering about how well the AmSOil CVTF does in the Honda CVT.

KW2004Accord and andrewtl96, thanks for the putting out onto the forum your results with AmSOil CVTF. Even though our particular application will be a 9th Gen 2014 Civic, now I've got the confidence that the AmSOil product will be an improvement over the Honda HCF2.

As soon as I finish a slow roll on a 4x drain/refill for our pair of acquired-in-the-last-year 8th Gen Accords, I'll do subsequent ATF servicing with AmSOil ATF.

Amazon has a drain and fill kit for $75, has 4 quarts honda cvt fluid, crush washer, some gloves , towels, ect... but I go to my local dealer every 50k, its only $110. It's worth it to me to spend $35 to not deal with gallon of old fluid every 4 years...

I ordered the AMSOIL cvt fluid today. I'm going to give it a try. I've read so many positive reviews about the product I'm going to try it and see if there is a noticeable difference. Ran me 55.00 plus tax for a gallon of it. I'm going to drain/fill and then probably repeat about 10,000 miles down the road. Thanks for the advice though.

I ended up cancelling the order through a local seller as I found I could order it cheaper .myself from Amsoil themselves. Last night I pulled the trigger I have 3 - 1 gallon cases of cvt fluid, signature series oil and a transmission and engine flush from them going to do a complete overhaul with their fluids only ran me 220.00 dollars for everything. I know that's a small investment to keep my car running long and efficient. Can't wait to feel the difference.

The first time (ATF for my 04) I went through my mechanic as he knew a local rep. Took me 2 months as the rep. forgot to order it when he sent his order in so I had to pay an extra shipping charge then the mechanic added his up charge. I found 2 stores locally that sold it so after that I always brought it. The stores don't carry the cvt fluid, so like you I just order from the Amsoil website if I can get free shipping.

Yeah I agree I feel as though the local shops are upcharging rightfully so, to make a few bucks. I paid 10.00 to join some club membership and saved about 70.00 off the normal cost. I feel as though if it's as good as most say it is it's worth it in the long run I feel like that's a minimal cost especially if I'm doing the work myself I don't have to pay anyone.

Did the first drain and fill at 49,000 miles with AMSOIL cvt fluid last night. Also switch to their signature series OW-20 oil and k&N performance filter. I also did an engine flush with amsoils engine flush fluid before the oil change.
I notice the car seems more responsive and in sport mode does seem to feel tighter and quicker to respond when accelerating. Not a major change but something I am glad I did just for the simple fact the fluids are more quality and will keep my piece of mind going forward. I don't mind dropping a little extra coin when it comes to fluids in my car as I do all my own work and that money saved on labor goes into it and I know my own car and how it works. I'm a believer in AMSOIL I think just the immediate differences and better quality is worth the effort. Going to do anoth cvt fluid drop maybe 5,000 miles down the road.

You don't need to flush your engine as long as you change the oil regularly using 0w-20 synthetic.
Amsoil CVT fluid is an excellent fluid in compared to OEM, but their motor oil is way too expensive. I stick to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w-20 sold by Walmart and change it every 5k miles.

Yeah I wanted to do the flush just because I was changing the oil and the flush fluid was only 10.00 Soni thought why not. I got the signature oil from AMSoil and for the price its not much more than what you get in the store. I'm happy with how it's running I'll probably do another drain and fill on the cvt fluid sooner than later.

Got bored and did another drain and fill this was my second with amsoil cvt fluid. Notice a considerable difference. Seems the further I get away from the OEM fluid the better. Car is driving smooth and oh so responsive. Car drives like new at 49,000 miles what a fun car to drive.
