Has anyone had to transport a large package (baby shower gift) and noticed that there is no way to tie down the trunk? The package will not fit in the back seat and doesn't fully fit in the trunk. Was this a small oversight by Honda, a safety precaution, or just deemed unnecessary?

I don't think any manufacturer has ever even considered that when designing a car.
I'm sure you're right. It just seems that on other cars I've had there was something under the trunk lid that could be used to tie it down. It's a minor issue, I know.

You can buy adjustable trunk tie-down straps online. One end hooks onto the 'hoop' at the bottom, and the other end simply clicks into the latch in the trunk lid; you push the latch into the locked position, take out the slack, and when you want to undo it you simply hit the trunk release lever or use the key fob.

Great suggestion. Thanks.

Another simple idea other than it might cause minor or major paint damage depending on the movement of the lid. Placement of a barrier against the rope burnishing the lip of the trunk might alleviate that problem.

Still like the idea of the latch closing on the trunk hold down rope better.

Found one
Looks like what you are talking about for the latch and hoop attach points.

just use some bungee hook tie-downs.

Hook the top lip of the trunk lid (where the trunk lid meets the bottom of the rear window) and strap it down under the car at the rear tow hook.
Assuming you have a long enough bungee rope, the plastic hook shouldn't scratch your paint. But then again Honda paint is pretty cheap and thin.
