After 20 years of driving GM vehicles (used to work for a GM subsidiary and got a nice discount...) Old habits die hard... I joined my wife and bought my first Honda 3 days ago - Silver 2005 Accord EX-L 4 cyl 5sp. I love this car! It has almost everything and what it doesn't have I'm working on adding. I've got the auto-dim mirror and fog lights on their way. I'll think about adding the sway bar(s) in a month or 2 and I'll probably throw in the lock relay so the doors automatically lock (a feature I loved and my wife hated on my old Pontiac) somewhere in between. I'm okay with the headlights - don't need HID, but miss the auto-on feature I've gotten used to on my GM cars. I may add that later too. The one thing I haven't seen anyone talk about is heated mirrors. I'm in Dallas and don't need them often, but I seem to really wish I had them (at least on driver's side) about once a year. Can they be added? The TSX has them... Are the parts interchangeable, and if so, what part numbers do you buy? Any help is appreciated.

Same here. Brought up GM, BIG GM fan, raced GM for several years. I am just tired of GMs quality control. We even tried a 2000 Cadillac STS for a while and the build quality wasn't there.(pretty amazing for a $55K car huh?) We are back in a Honda for our main car and thats where we will stay for a while.

Nice coice BTW.....

Welcome, and congrats on your switch! I too (and a lot of us I think)am an ex-GM owner; it wasn't a conscious decision, I just decided to get a used Acura about 12 years ago. (my apologies to the other members who've heard this story 99 times :) ) Then it hit me a few years later: oh, I don't have to replace the alternator every 2 years, and the starter will last more than 3 without dying, and the car isn't shedding trim and parts. Been a happy camper ever since.

I've heard that the TSX mirrors do and don't fit; on some other honda boards (vtec.net and v6p.com), people will claim they've done this swap, but then disappear once people start asking for instructions/pics.

But - the Canadian Accords get heated mirrors; that may be another option to check out.

Welcome and congratulations!!

The Accord is one sweet ride.

Regarding the auto lock relay, I pretty much thought the car locked itself under certain circumstances. I know mine has, unless I'm losing my mind lol.

As for turning Japanese, your car is probably made in Ohio and designed in California, so it's American all right ;)

Heated mirrors - see if you can get Canadian ones or JDM from the inspire. The JDM ones have turn signals in them, but are more expensive, and not designed to North American specs.

Congratulations on your Accord, dougm. AND welcome to the site, hope you enjoy it here!!

Doug, I know how you feel.

I keep asking myself why can't GM, Ford or Mopar build a car to compete with the Accord.

For me, the Accord is the perfect commute car pulling down an overall average of 32.11  , having six airbags, anti-lock brakes, decient power a wonderful 5-speed manual, a sweet sounding motor, good handling dynamics, XM radio I can go on and on.

welcome to the boards, and as usual:

glad you made the switch. i was a mopar driver and i have found that the accord is much better than any american (big 3) mid-size sedan. looking forward to seein those pics.

This surprised me personally. I've been in a 7th gen LX 4 cyl auto before and the engine/exhaust note seriously put me to sleep. I thought it was much worse than my 6th gen 4 cyl 5-speed, but hey whatever floats your boat? Also kind of surprised me since you come from big V8's (Mopar or no car! Hey I used to be an American fan too :)).
