Truck grazed and dented the rear driver side door on my car this morning on my way to work.

I'll take pics later.

Estimate is approx $1800 to fix the damage.

Waiting on the police report (cop says call the pct tomorrow).

Ugh!

Ouch! I guess it'll be covered by (the other guy's) insurance?

Sorry to hear that. The main thing is you and everyone else are okay. I had a student driver change lanes into my '04 Pilot, damaging the front fender. I was pretty upset but calmed down. She was changing lanes to avoid a double parked car and panicked when she approached it. I know my Pilot is still very new and I wanted to keep it that way but what happened can be easily fixed and painted, no frame or mechanical damage. When I was younger, I would have stayed upset for a long long time. But, having lost my mom this year has put a different perspective on life and how trivial things shouldn't be important in the big picture. So, I mellowed out quite a bit and try not to let little things bother me as much.

Seems to something in the air.... been a few ouchies over the past few weeks! Sorry to hear about this one too! :(

Well I'm waiting on the report to see who was at fault. When the cop was talking to me, he threw in "so you were passing him on the right?" and I said, "no, I was changing lanes, clearly I was in front of him, I signaled and was turning into my lane. He speeded up and hit me."

Truth is I was changing lanes to avoid a double parked car but I was in the clear and he did speed up and hit me, I guess to "punish" me for being in the right lane. I was going from right to left though.

I am hoping I am not found at fault, but if I am (knowing me I probably will be), well I'll have to decide whether I'm taking this to insurance or not. I can pay $1800 out of pocket and my deductible is $1000 so will it really be worth it to claim from insurance?

BTW, why does it take a cop a whole HOUR and a HALF to get to an accident scene after you call 911?

Oh, and no less than TEN minutes after the accident, some guy walks up to me with a card saying he represents a law firm, and if I need a lawyer to call him. Gotta love the ambulance chasers.

I just hate double parkers! I understand if there is absolutley no space to park within a reasonable distance, and you only need to be there for a very short time, it may be okay but not on busy streets. This being said, there usually is some place to park (including pulling into driveways), people are usually too lazy to look. As for your cop question, they usually don't put a priority on traffic accidents unless someone is injured or there is property damage other than the involved vehicles.

Agreed! This is AM rush in downtown brooklyn. No place for double parking whatsoever.

I realized that, but I saw quite a few cop cars pass by, and there was even one who pulled up and said that he couldn't take the report because he's not from that precinct. He called one from the other precinct and they took a whole hour to get there. I don't understand why, usually downtown bklyn is swimming with cops. It also wasn't far from metrotech which usually has a heavy police presence.

Maybe if the accident had occured on Gold St. in front of the 84th Pct, you would have gotten help faster (or a Dunkin Donuts). :D

I was thinking the exact same thing about the accident occuring in front of a donut shop! Great minds think alike. :D

You know thats what I thought until I found a Ohio state law the disallows insurance company from raising your rates for a no-fault accident.. Now if you have points on your license and they do a review they can raise rate but not for a no fault accident unless you have a safe driver discount then they take that away.

I1 :)

EXLNavi,

Always hate to hear about damaged Honda's :thumbsdow

Hope it all works out and you do not get penalized for someone else's stupidity

Well I called the insurance co yesterday, and this morning a claims rep took some of my info. The car is going into the shop today.

Car is in the shop now.

Got a Volvo S60 to use for the time being (rental). I'm kinda enjoying the 5 cylinders, but make no mistake, it's not my Accord. It has no navi and the controls are all bass ackwards. ARRRRRRRGH!

ouchie!! sorry about your car!!!! :(

huh, i1, they didnt raise my rates with my no fault "hit and run" even though i had the good driver discount and i have even started a new policy through them in the few months following the accident...

that's odd that the cop took so long to show up. but maybe it has something to do with the severity of the accident? it only took the cops a couple of minute to get to the scene of mine even though noone was injured. but i was also dealing with state police (accident was on an interstate highway), not local cops.... :dunno:

lucky you got a "decent' rental atleast.... no neon!! :lmao:

They were going to give me a Ford focus but I said nah and it was between the volvo and a dodge durango.

Since I commute 30 miles to work each day I didn't need to be paying more for gas so I took the volvo.

I've had my share of battle scars too...
1 month after i got my car, my door got "ding'd" at the staff parking lot in the hospital I work at...
then 3 weeks ago, the only day I go out for lunch @ McDs, some idiot reversed into my front bumper from the passenger side, took it for an estimate, $775 if I dun replace my headlight! WT****... and the guy who hit me, tried to take off... but luckily I saw it from far away, so I chased him down... ON FOOT!!!! hahaha... but anyway... glad we settled it, without going thru insurance,...

Hey I am thankful it wasn't the Ford focus that they wanted to give me.

Well to be honest I enjoyed the rain sensing wipers, auto lighting dash, RDS in the radio, rear A/C and memory seat, as well as the 5 cylinder engine.

But I hated using that gawd awful jack to change the tire, (volvo just HAD to be different), wheel BOLTS instead of wheel nuts, malfunctioning fuel gauge, and lack of a proper pocket in the dash and cramped space in the rear seat.

I also missed my navi (I know volvo has navi but this one didn't), XM radio, 6 cd in dash changer, and better FE from my car.

Hey, maybe I'm bitter. I had bad experiences in my former inlaws volvo.
