Ok, finally found my answer(I'll put as much detail as I can in to help people who have difficulty finding the answer in a search as I did):

Unlike the I4, the V6 has it's filter under the airbox, like so

I've heard that there's an accessible transmission filter on the V6 auto, but I haven't read anything that says where. All I turned up in the search is that it's a "bear" to replace
 
It's not something that Honda list as a "Serviceable" maintanance part. I don't think that the job is even listed in a "over the counter" repair manual. However, yes it can be changed and yes it is a bit of a pain in the butt. If you are mechanically inclined, it is recommended. I have started a pattern on my accord to change the fluid every 10K and I plan on changing the filter as well each time now. It's a little easier if you have a CAI installed since it removes a lot of the plastic pieces that cover the filter that you are going to need to remove to access it. Other than that, it's just a little time consuming.
 
It sits under the intake pipe on the bellhousing of the transmission.
 
I thought you had to remove the ATF pan...bottom plate...what ever you might call it...to access the ATF filter on the 7th gen V6?

Do you mean to say this is some sort of in-line filter? I thought the 7th gen 4cyl ATF filter was an in-line filter but not the 6cyl.

The filter is item #7. Look down on the top of the tranny. It should be very clear. Basic automotive 101.
The link only takes me to a search page on the College Hills Honda web site.
When I search on my car, I find nothing for an ATF filter.

Once again....you are referring to a 6cyl?

I wonder if the filter could be gutted or bypassed and an inline filter added in a more accesible location?

I also propose this because it has been said that the V6 filter lacks a bypass.
 
Accordriver - the I4 filter you posted is a Magnefine. Not sure where you got the picture but that is not Honda stuff. I added one of those to my Ody, and sometimes it is put in with tranny replacements on the 4AT (though Honda has a non-descript filter for it).

Marc04LX, I wouldn't worry about a bypass as the tranny filter gets all clogged up and fluid still seems to circulate fine. Here's one off a 5AT Odyssey

You can add an inline filter, most people use the Magnefine I mentioned above. It has a filter element and also has a magnetic ring to trap finer particles, which is nice. Typically it's put in the return line from the radiator cooler going back to the tranny, at least on an older car. On newer cars and cars where you are installing a tranny cooler at the same time there's other guidelines. See the link below for a cutaway of the Magnefine, I found it very interesting :yes:

If you haven't replaced the filter yet, do it. I changed mine twice, once at 30k miles and once at 55k miles. Each time it was black, clogged, and hard as a rock. That was WITH me changing the ATF once every 15k-20k miles.

I just hit 70k miles and my AT still shifts nice and smooth. I'm hoping it stays that way for a long time.
