how hard was it for you to paint the honda in the back? did you do it by hand?
It was pretty easy. just need a steady hand. I scuffed it a little with fine sandpaper, no primer (woulda been very hard to do that) &I used a bottle of touch up paint that has the little brush built in. applied in 3-4 light layers. I was originally worried it wouldnt hold up due to the heat factor, being its on the metal, but its been 4 months & still looking good. With ur color scheme, I would probably do it in black or dark silver to match your outside color imo

Thanks it took about 2-3 hours you have to let the primer dry for an hour before applying the color. Then the color has to dry about 45 min to an hour before laying down the clear.

Now to address that hater who things painting the engine bay is pointless. You obviously don't understand the point of customizing your car if you want to be fast and a dumbass that's cool then when you pop you hood they look at your shit and go damn that is plain and dirty wash it lol, but if you wanna catch someone's eye when you pop your hood or ever wanna win a car show you better learn to paint my friend or know a shop! Anyone who is anyone knows that there is no point to painting all the suspension pieces and engine chrome cause like u said no one sees it but you tell Chip Foose that and we will see you next post after that conversation lol nuff said on that!

Yea I wanted to look like it came from Honda that color. I thought of the color match but wanted it to pop a bit and the outside is close to black shade wise, but thanks for all the compliments
Ok, fair enough. Let me ask you, how many car shows have you won with your Honda Accord?

I've won two awards! Not shows in person. Shiagi Sexiest Engine Bay, and DriveAccord Ride of the Month! Partially due to my engine bay I imagine. I don't think the CaliAccord Meet in LA on the 9th is giving out any awards though.

This is just perfect (Including Donnyb748's) Just what I would want my engine bay to look like. Some people OVERLY paint everything in there engine bay :paranoid: < jk :D

Most shows do have a section for engine bays. Years ago I was a judge at a few shows myself, & it accounted for aprox 15% of the total score. I too painted my engine covers, & while I have no plans of competing anymore, it just plain looks good to ME.
That said, the op titled this thread with "what do you guys think", & as much as I disagree with 8thgensedan's opinions, he was asked for them, & given his. Which I can respect, considering he was asked for them

No he proceeded to belittle the mod, the OP and and the thread.....

It's one thing to say "I don't like it" but it's over the line to say "this post is stupid and I can't see why anybody would do this".....

Who asked me?

I did ?....as a moderator here.....

I fully agree, there are more tactful ways to express ones opinions. & I may have missed something, but I dont see where he said "this post is stupid & dont see why anyone would do this" or where he belittled a moderator:dunno:
(although he was rough on the op & I coulda done w/o some of the language used)

Belittled the OP in post 13.....never said he belittled a mod...just pointing out as a mod why I'm commenting on it.....
ok I gotcha. my fault. I read "belittle the mod" as moderator not modification... Lol

I just painted my 8th Gen V6 AT plastic engine piece and it looks great! to ME!
I was bored and got the paint and voila' it was red!

Has anyone ever removed that flat piece from atop the intake and painted that? I'm tempted to at the very least paint the "HONDA" lettering but painting it some contrasting color with my San Marino red exterior would make it pop more. I just got the car last week.
Came from a 10 yr old 2002 V6 Accord that NEVER had any problems what so ever. I did change timing belts/wp/serpentine at 102,000 but that's all. Anyway, that's my history with Honda.

Very nice job!

I'm sorry for coming off harsh but that is my opinion on this mod, which, the OP asked for. Thank you Donny for respecting my opinion, even if you don't agree. In retrospect, I suppose the way I said things in my original post does make me look like a hater or troll, and I apologize to the OP for that. I am not a hater or troll.

I suppose the mod is kind of cool, but ultimately a worthless mod for someone like me who does not go to car shows with my plain-jane Accord. My car didn't car didn't even come with the cover anyway.

10 points for bing understated. Many coloring projects can go too far, and include to many pieces.
But i like the understated nature of the colors. I was actually wondering if that came from factory. Good job.

My dude I didn't take it that personal and I haven't won any car shows because I have yet to put my car in one its not ready for one yet in my opinion. I did ask for opinions and I respect everyones good or bad but you came off pretty harsh as though I painted yours and you were upset. With being said you stated you have a "Plain Jane" accord. Are you keeping it a sleeper or have any plans on doing any mods at all? what mods do you have I'm actually asking to know not to be sarcastic. I really had no plans to modify this car at first I had a BMW that was a hell of car fun to drive but a money pit to fix and a civic before that which I wish I had pics of still. I'm 30 but these guys on this forum have changed all of that brought be back to my 20s again with all the knowledge and tips. So any plans on mods ? all is forgiven by the way no grudges my dude ..

that was the look I was going for is from the factory look I personally don't like the flashy look anymore but more sleeper look rims, tints, and everything else to the imagination more in to cruising around now then going really fast but I have my moments...lol

L-O-L, this has to be the most pointless mod ever. Are you folks going to be driving around with your hoods open? Does the paint make you go faster? Because we all know that the 2.4L motor is grossly under powered for such a large car...

Are you going pop your hood at the grocery store and showoff your small 2.4L motor and say "Look, I painted the cover, isn't it nice?"

I can understand painting an exterior mod like rims, a spoiler, or a roof spoiler, but what were your motivations behind painting something under the hood that 99% of people probably won't even see and/or give a rat's a$$ about?
**** off...
Annoying bastard...

Looks awesome dude. I am gonna do mine in Red/White/Black.

Hell I'm 52 and I painted my 3.5L engine cover, it's fun! I was bored and everyone else's looks good I think! Mine is red like my coupe.

I'm still wanting to know if anyone has advice for painting the intake cover plate with "Honda" emblem raised on it.

- I am probably gonna paint mine red...but I have a gray sedan...feel like that doesn't really make sense, but I don't know of a better color. Oh well.
