Has anyone heard anything about using particular waxes on 3M ClearBra? When the installer put it on my uncle's 05 Ody, he said that waxes with silicone should not be used on the clearbra. I'm thinking, why would a wax have silicone in it, and why would it matter? Maybe he meant as a general thing, or maybe he even meant PTFE/Teflon? :dunno: My uncle is trying to use Turtle Wax quickwax or something like that...spray on type, on the clearbra.

My installer said I could use any wax I want on it. So far I've only used Wet Paint on it, but from what I understand, their web page says you can and should wax it.

My installer did not specify any kind of wax to use or avoid as well. Since day one, I've been using Mothers California Gold Pure Carnauba Wax and haven't noticed any problems.

A long, long time ago, I used Amway Silicone Glaze Car polish. The advantages were how easily it buffed off (a strong exhale would clean off a hood), the brilliant shine it left and how it repelled water. The disadvantages were it did not last long and was relatively expensive.

A lot of waxes/sealants still contain some silicone, as it is used as the "filler" which hides all your minor scratches and possibly some swirls until the layer wears/evaporates away. I figure NXT must have "some" silicone in it...as it tends to hide the smallest of scratches on a car's surface.

In terms of not using it in a clearbra...I can't see why not. I mean, one could argue that the clearbra is designed to breathe and silicone would "block" that ability...but paint is supposed to breathe as well. Beyond that, any silicone content is temporary, so it would last just as long on the bra as the paint. I mean, thus far I have used a cleaner wax (TurtleWax re-branded as Zymol), a "polymer" wax (Meg's NXT), and a proper sealant (Wolfgang) on my clearbra and it looks fine to me (if not better "waxed" than "not waxed").

Really, the only thing I'd never do is use an actual automotive polish on a clearbra...no idea what would happen there if you tried, but I doubt it would be good at all (considering polishes take off a minute amount of paint, and would probably just marr the crap out of the clearbra).

my installer made a point to say (and even write it on the invoice) to use only dye-free wax. he said any other additives in small amounts should be fine (though he didn't really quantify that) :)

My installer told me the same thing about avoiding waxes with dyes in them. That said, I've been using the Mothers FX SynWax and it looks and feels great on the ClearBra.

I thought silicone was for giving the wax its slickness? Maybe I had that one wrong. I also would never polish the clear bra. I actually dont see the point of it, and cant think of a case where oyu would need to. I wish I was lucky like you guys and had a clear bra.
