Is it a sensor for accident prevention? My Sport has the grill blocked like that, but I figured help over cooling or sensor insert for other models.

That is correct. Actually if look in your owners manual it will tell you that is what it is.

Interestingly only the Touring uses this radar for the Honda Sensing features. If you buy any of the lower level trims w/ Honda Sensing, then those features are accomplished through a camera mounted in front of the rear-view mirror.

The Touring has the CMBS standard. CMBS measures distance and speed from the vehicle in front of you, as well as other parameters. This will need the timing of the radar reflection for its computations. A camera can't do that. If you have CMBS on another trim level, then you will have the radar.

The radar is on my EX. The ACC (adaptive cruise control) and CMBS would not work with just a camera.

As others have noted, this is a radar sensor and is part of the Honda Sensing package. I have it on my EX
