I have a 2014 Honda Accord LX that will be sent to Honda dealer for first oil change sooner. What kind of engine oil (Honda genuine oil) does Honda dealer use? Is it full synthetic or synthetic blend engine oil? I know that Honda dealer sells Honda Genuine HG Ultimate Full Synthetic SAE 0W-20 Motor Oil. Is it best for asking dealer to put Honda Genuine full synthetic engine oil in when first oil change? Thank you very much!

Most dealers have contracts with bulk oil suppliers, and do not use factory oil. It is most likely not synthetic oil that they use, unless you specifically request it. They will probably make you pay extra for full synthetic.

My dealer uses 0w-20 full synthetic oil. I know because I asked the service manager. When I have the oil changed on my 2000 Accord the reminder sticker on the windshield says Quaker State. I am assume that they are using the same brand synthetic oil. Of course I am reminded that the word assume is made up of, make an ass out of u and me. :notworthy

Also, they replace the oil filter with every oil change regardless that Honda only recommends in the owner's manual to change the filter every other oil change. Honda recommends either full synthetic or synthetic blend oil in the owner's manual. BTW do NOT change the oil the first time until the maintenance minder gets to 15% or less to allow the rings to seat properly because the oil installed at the factory contains chemicals that need time to seat the rings.

They charged me $59 including rotating the tires.

buy mobil1 and take it to the dealer. 24bucks at walmart and 19 for the filter and change
Will the dealer reduce the price of the oil change if you use your own oil? Most Honda dealers have a quick change oil department and selling you their oil is built into their price.

My dealer said they use only full synthetic in all 2012 and newer Hondas. I think the ticket stated they used Valvoline Full synthetic 0w-20.

Any Honda dealer I have been to uses a Synthetic Blend 0W20, which is different from Full Synthetic. Most dealers purchase bulk oil to save cost. How else do you think they can do an oil change for $30 and not lose money? Full synthetic would cost at least $50 for an oil change. To those that claim they are getting full synthetic, how much are they charging you for oil changes?

Full synthic with filter for $49. I think that was with a coupon.

If over $50 figure synthetic or blend, under $40 figure Dino or blend, over $70 synthetic. Under $30 is Dino. Dealers will charge twice as much for synthetic, it is not a bulk oil product. You still have to change within the MM, for warranty. I use the dealer oil and have had no problems getting over 100k trouble free mileage.

This is what I like about forums, even people who know not of what they speak are allowed to post falsehoods.

Why do you think that synthetic bulk oil can not be purchased?

The dealership where I work gets bulk 0W-20 Mobil 1 delivered twice a week.

There is no such thing as non-synthetic 0w20 dino oil. The cheapest 0w20 you will find for sale is what is referred to as a synthetic blend.

"James Linden, chairman of the SAE Fuels and Lubricants Council, says that while oil companies could theoretically make 0W-20 non-synthetic oil, in practical terms it requires a synthetic process to make the oil meet all the relevant standards automakers require."

My dealer charges $31.95 for an oil change with 0w20 synthetic blend. It indicates "synthetic blend-bulk oil" right on the receipt.

I am an oil nut and have come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter. Stick with correct weight and spec oil. All of us either have cars or know people who have gone 300k miles or more on regular oil before Mobil 1 was ever invented. How many people here have had engine failure or extreme wear rendering the car useless based on using non synthetic oil?

I am a Penzoil Platinum or Ultra guy and I like the theoretical benefits of synthetic oil for wear and temp extremes but I've never gotten rid of one of my many used cars for oil related problems. I don't really think it matters. And yes I'm a hypocrite because I still use synthetic as a preference.

Sorry, I will plead ignorance. I don't think of 55 gallon drums as bulk, I consider 450+ liter tanks or tanker delivery as bulk oil. I wasn't disputing that Mobil 1 comes in bulk. I know it does. I just thought that would be high inventory cost for cars that don't require it, like Hondas.

My ignorance is I was unaware that staring with the CRV in 2012, Honda got away from 5W-20 which my Acura TL and past Pilots used. I see now the 0W-20 is now the Honda oil of choice. I never thought Honda would be in German car territory with synthetic requirements. So, I can see now why a Honda dealer would have to buy synthetic in bulk. Just seemed odd since 0W-20 would require new new oil tanks, in addition to the 5W-20 tanks, given how "new" it is to Honda.

I'll be curious what they will use for my oil at the first change on my Touring with the free oil change coupon for $35 they gave me. Even with bulk oil, dealers are not going to charge $35 for a full synthetic change in my area. The blend is $45 at my dealer, and full synthetic is "additional" - no price given. If dino oil is not available in 0W-20, then should we be wary of the 5W-20 bulk oil being used? There are more Honda products on the road using that oil.
