PUTCO LED Lighting Dome Kit for Honda Accord 08

First off, let me say I was not going to do this upgrade as there are to many different companies offering different LED lights. Every time I went to do a search I would find a different bulb number. It got to the point where it was entirely to confusing so I decided just not to do it.

I received a call from Xenon Depot, Steve, in regards to trying his new LED lights supplied by PUTCO. I was apprehensive at first, but the kit included all the dome lights, front and rear. This took the guessing game out of the equation for me as he insured me that this kit included all the LEDs for the Dome lights. So I decided to give it a try considering Steve had great customer support on the HIDs I purchased from him (6 months ago) and I knew he would be around incase I had issue with these LEDs.

Well after ordering the kit it arrived about 5 days later as I ordered it during the Easter holiday and it took alittle longer then usual. Here is what the kit looks like when I received it:

Here is what is in the box:

So when I received that package and opened it up to view the contents I knew something was wrong as there were only 2 LEDs. FYI, The front dome lights are the map lights which are left and right (2) and the rear has one dome light so there should have been at least 3 LEDs. I emailed Steve about the problem and he got back to me right away in regards to the issue and called PUTCO. PUTCO at the time from my understanding didn’t know the Accord had a rear dome light. So after some research it was determined that the rear dome light was the same as the front in regards to the bulb type. I also had a faulty LEDs light that came with the kit so PUTCO dropped shipped me overnight 2 new LEDs. One for the rear dome light and one for the non working LED kit that came with the kit. So in total you should have 3 LED packages for all the dome lights.

Here is what comes in the kit:

Everything in the above picture is what comes in the kit minus the light that has no leads coming out of it. That light is the OEM light bulb in the domes. The ones with the leads is the replacement for the OEM bulb that you plug the LEDs into.

So first step: Removal of the clear housing of the dome/map lights in the front. Using a flat head screw driver put the flat head screw driver inbetween the clear housing and roof and push the screwdriver towards the windshield, like below:

Image

**NOTE** Make sure you start with the rear part of the light as it was easier for me to get that off on both sides then the front of the light.

Once you get the clear housing off it should look like this:

Take out the bulb:

Look in the packaging that came with the PUTCO kit and find the bulb that is the replacement:

Image

Once you get the replacement bulb plug the LED lead into the bulb lead. Like so:

Plug in the bulb into the dome with the lead sticking out to the right of left not straight down. Reason for this is the kit come with double sided tape which you will need to put on the back of the LED to stick to the bulb to hold it in place like so:

Image

Image

Once in turn it on to make sure it works. If not take the bulb out and turn it 180 degrees and reinsert as you most likely had the bulb in wrong with the polarity reversed which is why the LED won’t turn on. Try again and it should work.

If the LED turns on without issues place the led against the bulb with the double sided tape and put the clear housing back on the dome. Should look like this once finished (also a comparison picture:

Once the front is complete it should look like this:

Image

For the rear the only difference in the install is the removal of the clear housing. Start prying it open with the flat head screwdriver as shown below:

Image

Once you have the clear housing off use the same instruction for replacement as above. Once complete it should look like this:

All done.

I must say I was alittle unhappy with the broken LED at first but PUTCO/Xenon Depot did overnight new ones immediately and I was pleasantly surprised about the quick turnaround. Steve at Xenon Depot once again had great customer service and was very responsive to any inquiry. All in this is a VERY easy upgrade to do and the LEDS look great. Much more light output then before and the LEDs light us more white then yellow like the stock.

Here is the link to the LEDS lights if you are interested:

If you have any other questions let me know.

Additional Pics as requested in my pitch black garage. Sorry for the bad pics. Its a point and shot Canon and I can't control the exposure rate. Best I can do.

Only been a day. :) But it is brighter overall and I think easier on my eyes to see things. It's whiter and not that blue that might show in some of this pics. I like that the yellowness from the OEM bulbs are gone. It's a much more relaxing color. Not sure how else to describe it. Like a cooling effect.

The thing that I really liked was the fact this was a kit for the 08 accord that came with everything. No hassle, no trying to figure out what bulbs was needed. Ok, so I did alittle cause PUTCO didn't know about the rear dome, but now they do and that is fixed. :) Plus dealing with Steve from a customer perspective is always a pleasure. I knew he would go out of his way like he always does if an issue arised.

Easy and cheap mod that actually does have an upgrade to functionality. :)

I second that. I would love a kit that included bulbs for the domes and doors. And it wouldn't hurt if it included bulbs for the vanity mirrors and license plate. :) I know these can all be bought separately, but it'd be much more attractive if it were just available in a kit.

Hi Alvin,

Thank you so much for the kind words. I am glad to hear that you are happy with the product. I know you had your reservations initially (as you mentioned) so I do appreciate you working with us on this.

Enjoy!

I agree, a total kit would be nice, but what about the ppl that only want just the domes? Maybe they can make a total package kit that includes dome, door, and vanity. Maybe call it like the interior kit accord LED kit. Then have a seperate kit for the outdoor bulbs. Or better yet if they could just list the exact bulbs on the web and just pick what you want. I didn't like the part of trying to figure out which bulb was for what so if you could just hit a single page for an Accord and pick this bulb for XZY that would be good also.

spikeit, I've always wondered, when doing the LED interior change, do these LED's still dim like they usually do after locking your door?

Good question Zexen. I wondered the same myself and when you lock or put the key in to start the car the LEDs do infact dim as well. At least the PUTCO ones I put in do.

Hi Guys,

Take a look at the bottom of this page:

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/LED_Premium_Lighting_Accessories_s/317.htm

We have a vehicle application guide that will help you determine what kind of bulbs you need to order for your vehicle and where to find them on our website.

zexen - some LEDs will not dim. They are either on or off. The LEDs used in these kits will dim though.

Steve,

That is a nice light bulb guide. I don't see the door lamps listed. Do you think that is the courtesy light?

The Vanity lights I assume are seperate in the Vanity LED light section, correct?

1 for the left map light
1 for th rear light

wow nice setup ,i am actually looking to do the same thing but looking to add the trunk and license plate too!!

so i need to know what kind of bulbs go in there and how many

and how do you change the license plate light?!

a question!! i understand they are much brighter so i have one concern how bad is the glare on the windshield from them when turned on at night?!"not like i ll be driving with them on, but sometimes the passenger would need it maybe for few mins or so" would the map light be too annoyingly bright?!

last concern, how hot do they get`? like lets say i forgot om on all night "it happens" would they melt the housing?

thanks

The trunk and license are both 194 bulbs. I would recommend getting different ones though since they both have different light output needs. But most places you'll go to will only sell them in pairs. As far as this kit goes, the glare really isn't a problem but it is noticeably brighter at night. Heat should be considerably less as well since they are leds.

What do you mean different output needs ?!"do you mean i need a brighter one in the trunk and shouldn't go so bright for the license plate?!please explain
how about the glove compartment?!
so the license and the trunk are one each?
do you know how to change the license one?!

thanks

The license one is really simple. slide a flat head screw driver inbetweent he clear lens and the black plastic housing along the passenger side of the fixture. and pull out the clear lens from t he black housing.

Its really simple, maybe a little tough to get out but its okay its really strong and will take A LOT to break.
