PUTCO LED Lighting Dome Kit for Honda Accord 08
First off, let me say I was not going to do this upgrade as there are to many different companies offering different LED lights. Every time I went to do a search I would find a different bulb number. It got to the point where it was entirely to confusing so I decided just not to do it.
I received a call from Xenon Depot, Steve, in regards to trying his new LED lights supplied by PUTCO. I was apprehensive at first, but the kit included all the dome lights, front and rear. This took the guessing game out of the equation for me as he insured me that this kit included all the LEDs for the Dome lights. So I decided to give it a try considering Steve had great customer support on the HIDs I purchased from him (6 months ago) and I knew he would be around incase I had issue with these LEDs.
Well after ordering the kit it arrived about 5 days later as I ordered it during the Easter holiday and it took alittle longer then usual. Here is what the kit looks like when I received it:
Here is what is in the box:
So when I received that package and opened it up to view the contents I knew something was wrong as there were only 2 LEDs. FYI, The front dome lights are the map lights which are left and right (2) and the rear has one dome light so there should have been at least 3 LEDs. I emailed Steve about the problem and he got back to me right away in regards to the issue and called PUTCO. PUTCO at the time from my understanding didn’t know the Accord had a rear dome light. So after some research it was determined that the rear dome light was the same as the front in regards to the bulb type. I also had a faulty LEDs light that came with the kit so PUTCO dropped shipped me overnight 2 new LEDs. One for the rear dome light and one for the non working LED kit that came with the kit. So in total you should have 3 LED packages for all the dome lights.
Here is what comes in the kit:
Everything in the above picture is what comes in the kit minus the light that has no leads coming out of it. That light is the OEM light bulb in the domes. The ones with the leads is the replacement for the OEM bulb that you plug the LEDs into.
So first step: Removal of the clear housing of the dome/map lights in the front. Using a flat head screw driver put the flat head screw driver inbetween the clear housing and roof and push the screwdriver towards the windshield, like below:
**NOTE** Make sure you start with the rear part of the light as it was easier for me to get that off on both sides then the front of the light.
Once you get the clear housing off it should look like this:
Take out the bulb:
Look in the packaging that came with the PUTCO kit and find the bulb that is the replacement:
Once you get the replacement bulb plug the LED lead into the bulb lead. Like so:
Plug in the bulb into the dome with the lead sticking out to the right of left not straight down. Reason for this is the kit come with double sided tape which you will need to put on the back of the LED to stick to the bulb to hold it in place like so:
Once in turn it on to make sure it works. If not take the bulb out and turn it 180 degrees and reinsert as you most likely had the bulb in wrong with the polarity reversed which is why the LED won’t turn on. Try again and it should work.
If the LED turns on without issues place the led against the bulb with the double sided tape and put the clear housing back on the dome. Should look like this once finished (also a comparison picture:
Once the front is complete it should look like this:
For the rear the only difference in the install is the removal of the clear housing. Start prying it open with the flat head screwdriver as shown below:
Once you have the clear housing off use the same instruction for replacement as above. Once complete it should look like this:
All done.
I must say I was alittle unhappy with the broken LED at first but PUTCO/Xenon Depot did overnight new ones immediately and I was pleasantly surprised about the quick turnaround. Steve at Xenon Depot once again had great customer service and was very responsive to any inquiry. All in this is a VERY easy upgrade to do and the LEDS look great. Much more light output then before and the LEDs light us more white then yellow like the stock.
