2018 Honda Accord 2.0T

A/C stopped working around 40k miles. Honda wanted to charge $400 just to check the A/C system. I took it to a local mechanic that has worked on Hondas/Acuras for a long time ( in Huntington Beach, CA). Pinhole leak in condenser and evaporator. No damage to either. I had to get both replaced. To top it off the battery also needed to be replaced.

Anyone else having the same issues? I know the 2016-2018 Honda Civics are having similar problems with the A/C system. A class action was started in 2019 for the Civics.

there was a pinhole leak in both the evaporator and condenser? I can understand the condenser being on the front of the car but the evap being hidden inside the car is a little iffy. Manufacturing issue or the parts can't take the higher pressures from the new 1234yf ?

Actually multiple pin hole leaks on the condenser. The new r-1234yf is highly corrosive and the parts aren't adequate.

I hadn't looked in to what's going on with the new Civics and their AC issues. Sounds like it's only a matter of time before it starts causing trouble with other models.

my honda accord 2019 has a leak in the evaporator! they said only the condensor is covered . they want $2400 to replace! ridiculous!
I just got the call from them saying they want to replace the evaporator on my 2018 Accord! It's ridiculous that so many people are having the same issue! Not sure I want to pay so much for a problem that my happen again.

There is a factory service bulletin on the 2018 Accord for a condenser warranty extension for 10 years with ulimited miles for a leaking condenser. I just got my condense replaced for free from Honda on my 2018 Accord.

My evaporator and condenser were both leaking, condenser got replaced but asking for $3000 for changing evaporator. I’m a second owner and I tried getting Honda assistance to replace the part for a smaller sum, but they denied the request. Thinking of selling the car as putting down $3k just doesn’t make sense

2018 Accord Sport 2.0T 6MT, 26,500 miles. A/C stopped blowing cold, dealer diagnosed bad condenser. Good news: covered under the warranty extension. Bad news: part is on back order with no estimated availability date.

Of course, it's the first heatwave of the summer here, so the car is roasting. Takes me back to my early driving years when my first car didn't have A/C.

I took my car today to a mechanic today (2018-Honda Accord with 156,000 miles). The performed a test and could not find any leaks, then I agree for them to put freon and they later came out and told me that they found the leak. Claim to be Evaporator core. I asked them, how the evaporator core goes bad. They guy said that it is because my high mileage as it needs to be replaced every 100,000 miles?? How can this be? This is my 6 Honda Accord, I am on the highway a lot and in my previous cars nobody told me that the evaporator core has to be replace due to mileage. They want $2,111.00!

I don't dispute their cost estimate too much, the Evap core is in the dash and so the dash needs to be removed (I'm pretty sure) to do the job. I do dispute that it is a maintenance item at 100k miles. That is wrong. Ask them to please show you any car manufacturer that lists it on their maintenance schedule.

Update: condenser arrived and the repair was performed today, but at check-out, the dealership tried to charge me $135 for refrigerant. At no time in any previous discussion was a charge for refrigerant mentioned, and the estimate sheet says $0.00 total for the repair. When I complained, the service writer took $35 off but implied I was being tedious to object -- even though by discounting the charge they're kind of admitting they were pulling a fast one. Boo on this dealership (not sure if I'm allowed to mention it by name).
