Hi Guys/Gals,

Is anyone on the 6th Gen Forum running a Fumoto oil drain valve on their Accord? I am interested to know their thoughts/review on this device. It looks like a cool device for the backyard mechanic.

Hi Guys/Gals,

I don't run one on my Accord, but I've run them on every motorcycle I've ever owned. They work well. They are especially handy if you the drain bolt is easily stripped or in a hard to get at location.

I run one on my 2003 and my wife's 2000. So that's both 6th & 7th gen. Also have one on my pop's 1999 Civic and my 2008 Chrysler Aspen. So I highly recommend the use of Fumoto drains. I advise going with the ones with the nipple and if Fumoto's web site recommends using the spacer adapter, you should get it as well. Will save you the hassle of stripped out plug/oil pan and the need to replace crush washers. Part of the reason I got one on my pop's Civic so fast. He stripped out the pan and we had to replace it. Plus you won't need any tools unless your filter is difficult to remove. I have had zero problems with any of them. If you are worried about the valve getting accidentally opened, they offer a safety clip. Although again, I've never had an issue.

They do drain slower than just removing a plug. This is especially more relevant when the oil is cold. Some recommend warming the engine up first to help the flow. However, in my opinion this throws the oil back up in the engine which will require more time for it to fall back down in the pan to drain so I just do it cold. When I do an oil change, I typically open the valve first, replace the filter while it drains (like most do), then take a 10 minute break while I let it drain as much as possible. Come back later, close valve and add oil. Makes things so much easier.

Thanks! I ordered one for my Accord and my wife's Elantra. I will post pics after the install.

I plan on doing my own oil changes from now on, after the last place I took it to overfilled my oil by a quart and a half. I had to use a syphon to pump out the extra 1.5 quarts.

Had that happen with my Aspen when I took it in for the first oil change. Luckily I had the Fumoto valve installed at the same time so I just opened it to drain back in to an empty oil can to save for later. No need to siphon once you get that on. Much easier to control how much to drain with a quick valve.

I finally ended up installing the Fumoto drain valve last weekend. Install was a breeze. I torqued the extension adapter to spec and then used a crows foot wrench to install the valve to the extension. It seems well built.
